“check out Fargo the series”

I’m almost afraid to do so. That’s a fave film and the mind recoils at the thought of a millennial TV version of it.

Your fears are unwarranted. It’s a fantastic series.

“Your fears are unwarranted. It’s a fantastic series.”

I’ll watch the first episode. I’m bracing myself for all sorts of hiphop-jumpcuts, at least one emo song to underscore whatever emotion and actors with the ever-trendy unshaven look & just got-out-of-bed hair, with very few actors/actresses looking over 20. If they can do the “Yaas” convincingly, at least that would be something.

As you can probably tell, I’m not expecting much. But I’ll give it a look.
:D

By the way, did you watch “TP The Return”? If so what did ya think about it all?

I don’t think there are any young people across the three seasons (which are three entirely different stories). This thing is on par with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul and is executive produced by the Coens. The guy who runs it, Noah Hawley, knows the movie inside and out, so he has the tone down, but it’s not a remake or even the same story.

BTW, the Coens have their own TV series coming up called “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.” It’s apparently a western and was too long to be released as a movie, so they’re going the TV route.

I loved it, even if there were some frustrations here and there. Lynch doesn’t give you want you think he’s going to give you, but he mostly gives you what you want. I know people wanted Coop to come back to himself a lot earlier than he did, and I certainly can sympathize, but it did make that moment make you stand up and ####ing cheer!

Oh, and the show did suffer from the lack of Michael Ontkean. You would have had a Sheriff Truman who was already up to speed, and his buddy relationship with Coop was so cool in the original. I figure Robert Forster can class anything up, and he did fine, but he couldn’t replace the “real” Truman.

Yeah, I took the Return of TP more as “hang on for a wild rild with David Lynch” than a linear TV show.

People wonder about some of the characters, that the would appear and they and their storyline would serve no real purpose and had no resolution or explanation.

I see those characters/storylines as kind of like real life - people come and go through our lives without really have little - if any - impact on us. We just think of them as “that guy/gal was a real character!” in describing them - we never know their backstory or whatever happened to them.

All in all, if it was all “just a dream”, it was more Lynch’s dream than any of his characters. We just got to dream it with him.

I liked the Tammy character, tho. Easy on the eyes and a unique presence. I though if there were more Twin Peaks, she and Coop would make a great X-File-ish type team (only wierder, heh).
The actress playing Tammy, Chrysta Bell, has been in Lynch’s musical stable for a few years. As you might expect, the results are odd:

As for Fargo, I’ve also never seen Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul - so the comparison is lost on me, lol.
Though if the Coen bros have their hand in it I imagine it hasn’t strayed too far from the Fargo reservation.
Oh - and I grew up hearing the “Ya’s” and “Youbetcha’s”, still hear it often enough these days!

Every movement and just the way Chrysta sat was sexy as hell. She was sexy even when she wasn’t trying to be! She was part of my favorite part of The Return because I loved the stuff with Gordon and Albert. It was a little sad watching those scenes, knowing Miguel was terminal But, I dig Gordon Cole. That was a tense scene when it looked like faux Diane was going to kill him. And then all three of them open up on her! LOL.

The main stars of season one of Fargo are Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), Billy Bob Thornton, Keith Carradine, and Allison Tolman, who is an absolute gem in a role equivalent to Frances McDormand in the movie. That list should erase your “cast of millennial morons” fears. Heh. But, enough. I don’t want to oversell it. That usually guarantees I’ll hate something, so just give it a chance and see what you think.

Thanks for the info on Fargo!

Couldn’t agree more on Chrysta. e.g. the takeaway in this scene is 1)only Lynch could get away with doing a 2 minute scene of people just loitering outside a building and smoking and 2) only Chrysta Bell could find 57 ways to look bored, annoyed and smokin’ hot, all at the same time.

Thanks, looks like a fun show. Though you run into the yas & youbetchas more when you get away from the metro area of MN and into the rural areas.
