NCAA bought UNCs argument that since anyone could take the fake classes there was no special treatment of athletes. What a joke. UNC exposed the fraud about athletes, especially football and men's b'ball, getting an education in exchange for them becoming indentured servants.

I’m sure this will be considered a great victory over the “haters” by many college sports fans.

it made available deficient Department of African and Afro-American Studies "paper courses" to the general student body, including student-athletes.

Yeah, but... Howe many non-athletes were actually admitted into the course?

And these frauds didn’t want to meet Trump. They probably couldn’t find Washington anyway.

The NCAA is every bit as corrupt and discriminatory as the US government.

If I were any other university in the NCAA and they showed up at my door I would slam it in their face and tell them to get the hell off my campus and if you don’t will see you in federal court if you do ANYTHING to my university, you have lost your legitimacy to judge any institution with this fiasco, you are a discriminator entity and not to be trusted.

If this had been University of Kentucky basketball or University of Alabama football they would have received the death penalty years ago.

At this point the major universities and conferences should consider forming their own governing agencies and break away from the NCAA and just cite their corruption and blatant discrimination for doing so. This ruling opens up a Pandora’s box, because they have legitimized academic fraud.

Another option would be for other universities to refuse to play North Carolina in any sport, just tell them we don’t want to associate with such a corrupt institution.

I am less ticked off that there was a gimme class apparently marketed to the athletes than that the classes were apparently bogus. What does tick me off though is that the classes in question were apparently fraudulent and fake in terms of content and academic administration. My interpretation of the NCAA-UNC fracas is that the NCAA found themselves in a wrestling match with a greased pig coupled with being twisted like a pretzel.

UNC is a member of the AAU (Association of American Universities). https://www.aau.edu/who-we-are/our-members . AAU is focused on rigorous academic standards and research. Hmmmmm... UNC does seems like the greasy pig on this.

Now... In a full disclosure, I am a double STEM major from the Arts & Sciences and the Engineering colleges. I took two humanities classes to fill the box in for academic areas outside my majors. One was titled A History of American Pop Music and the other was A History of American Cinema. The classes were taught by a Humanities professor with weekly quizzes, 2 or 3 tests and a final. It was legit. Yes, better than half of the classes were the football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc. teams. However, silly as it may seem it frankly broadened (or warped) my tastes in both music and movies to this day. I have zero guilt over those two easy A's. LOL.....

I know that the athletes had access to tutors, a means to skip classes for practices and games, etc. and still have to perform with the class assignments and such. In my narrow experience, I never saw anything that made me think that these were fake classes at all. Now, I did know that there was one prominent athlete in one low level engineering class of mine that was suspected to be a serial cheater and it wouldn't surprise me if it was accurate. You just cant miss 3/4 of the classes, show up on test days and pass these, unless he had one hell of a tutor essentially spoon feeding him the entire class, homework through tests.

Wait! Just recalled one other easy class that I had a blast in! It was a graduate seminar type class one night a week. Each week we had a guest science or engineering prof. from outside the major field present some topic from their area of specialty. The class was graded about 25% on the ever nebulous class participation and 75% on a single term paper due on the last night of class with the subject tied into the discussion topic of one the presenters or their general professional specialty. Mine was the on the legal foundations for liabilities related to genetic engineering and I ain't no lawyer. Many hours at the law library plus the university had and still has a top rated historical document and book collection that I was able to view and touch books that added to the breadth of the bibliography. English Common Law is cool and I had never realized that it is largely the foundation for many underlying principles of American tort law. I only put this long winded paragraph in to try to make the point that not every college gimme class is bogus. This is not to excuse what UNC appears to have twisted things but I definitely am not in favor of a blanket condemnation, it can be done legitimately

The bottom line is simple, and rather germane to this.

Dean’s Myth won his first title in 1982. At that time, there was a new little WOP over in Raleigh, and a sniveling, rat-faced boy in Durham. Dean felt safe.

But wait! That little WOP caught lightening in a bottle and won the NCAAs the next year, and that sniveling little fool was just starting to build something good in Durham.

“We can’t have that. We’re Carolina, the Ivy of the south.”

So, old Deano, and his AD....Johnny Swofford (now Commissioner of the ACC) cooked up the little AFAM scheme to get better players so those two lesser folks to the east would have trouble competing.

Fast forward....Dean is dead *spit*, and old Swoffy is now ACC Commissioner. Banners have been been hung fast & furious. The “Carolina Way” is the cream of the NCAA crop. UNCHeat is in the top 10 of NCAA cash cows.

Now, does anyone think the NCAA is gonna nuke UNC, and also perhaps open the doors to future investigations about how this started? If the death penalty were handed down today, the media frenzy, and subsequent forensic investigations would be monumental. Dean’s Myth is seen for what it is. Swofford is escorted out the door at the ACC, the cash cow is dead, and perhaps maybe the FBI (such as they are) might take notice.

Wasn’t going to happen.

The NCAA is a sham, and they proved that today. Any school, from this day forward, that gets slapped by the NCAA should laugh in their faces and tell them to phuck off.

The NCAA is a fraud. If the school was University of NoName, it would be sentence to the death penalty. Since it is UNC, and a member of a P5 conference, it is ok.
