The clerk was an a-hole. Yeah she opened the nacho cheese container, but she was ready and willing to pay for it.... and she was denied.
Her mistake was throwing things. I would have, personally, called the police and asked them to witness my attempt to pay. If the attempt was atill refused, I could have legally walked out, police watching.

What is with people refusing service?
Are store clerks getting dumber?
People get their stuff, bring it to the counter, pay and leave.
There should not be any drama about it.
If they mess up something then you call the cops or just fill out a report.
It is not that hard a job.
And I say that as someone who worked third shift in a "filler up, beer and snacks just off the highway".
Except for the time I nearly got robbed and was saved by a kind truck driver it was mostly boring.
