LUBBOCK, TX - A Roosevelt ISD mother, Michelle Decker is speaking out against the school district after she said the assistant principal used excessive force when discipline her fifth grade son with corporal punishment after he talked back to a teacher.
"She said Gianni has two choices, he can either go to ISS for three days or he can get three swats," Decker said. "Gianni told me he didn't want to go to ISS, he said 'I'll take the swats Mom"
Decker said when her son got home she noticed him limping up the stairs, and when she asked him to show her what was wrong, she noticed dark bruises on him.
"He pulled his pants down and I immediately started crying," Decker said. "I spank my children but I would never hurt them the way he was hurt,"
The Roosevelt ISD Superintendent, Dallas Grimes gave a statement:

by the way, this happened in Texas but I heard it on local station.
She is exaggerating, wants compensation and publicity.
.
“Tickle you?
I’LL TICKLE YOU!!”
All she wants is $$.
worthless b!tch
Yeah, if there are dark (severe) bruises and the kid is legitimately limping, it went too far. I’d say “swats” ought to leave the kid with a strongly reddened contact area and a burning sensation, which might produce light bruising within a day. As has been observed in the past, pain is a teacher that you don’t forget, but it should be pain only, not actual injury.
Whenever I got whacked in school, it wasn’t my choice and they never got parental permission first.
And I deserved it.
Helicopter.
My thoughts:
1) Some kids just will not shut their mouth and constantly disrupt class. There was a boy in my fifth grade class like that and the teacher had his mom sit in class all day for several days to keep him under control.
2) It takes a hard hit to bruise a child. This went beyond “discipline “ and was punishment done in anger, IMO. It crossed the line into abuse. Any parent does this and there’s a good chance the kids are removed from the home.
HOLY COW, THAT IS A BLAST FROM THE PAST!
Thanks for that.
Now I can’t get that stupid song out of my head. :-)
There is a reason my science teacher had holes drilled in his paddle board...

The reporterette didn’t mention what the kid said in smarting off to the teacher.
And where was the father of the student in all of this?

This was done at school and on #2 I think the same thing.
I suspect the assistant principal had dealt with this little snot nose jerk before and was angry. He should have let someone else spank the boy. He did indeed hit the kid too hard, not that the kid probably deserved it, but still.
If there was noticeable damage that long after being swatted, then yes, it was excessive.
“And where was the father of the student in all of this?”
We really have to ask anymore? There is no father. Just bastard kids of single moms. That is a biblical term too.
Money! MONEY!! MONEY!!!!!
I did it to myself so misery loves company ;)
Legend has it the band that did that song was an all-star but references are hard to find even with Google.
My science teacher used a thick yardstick. The shop teacher had holes drilled in his paddle and some screws in the side for extra oomph.
He smacked it on the shop table once while I was on the table. I heard screws hit the wall behind me.
I got the yardstick.
I’m not sure the shop teacher ever really hit anyone. His may have been a very strong bluff.
