MLB needs to suspend Astros' Yuli Gurriel for his racist gesture

Yuli Gurriel did something profoundly stupid during Game 3 of the World Series on Friday night. After hitting a home run off Los Angeles Dodgers starter Yu Darvish, who is from Japan, Gurriel returned to the dugout, held his index fingers to the outer corners of his eyes and pulled to narrow them, mimicking Darvish. Major League Baseball will meet with Gurriel before Game 4 on Saturday, and if the league intends to stay consistent with its message of inclusion and follow past precedent, it will suspend Gurriel for the action.

I’ve always been amazed at how many darker Hispanics have no idea that some “white” people speak Spanish; don’t they notice the “white” Hispanics that often rule their countries? What's happening is that people who can't handle leadership or decision making in a complex society have way too much sway. Sports are a mirror of what's happening in all aspects of our lives.

The situation that I'm appalled with is the NFL owner being chastised for saying "the inmates are running the asylum". These loudmouths who are appalled by that can't handle analogies. They can't voice their objections with humor and a spirit of cooperation. It's about a diminishment of the thought process.

ANY and ALL sports organizations need to set very specific rules against what these supposed “stars” and athletes have been demonstrating in “negative” ways. Athletes have been portrayed as role models for our youth and one can easily see that what they project to the youth only serves to create more like themselves particularly since kids mock what they see as acceptable. Well kids, I have news for you, it is NOT ACCEPTABLE and needs to be curtailed by the leagues these athletes work for.

I had no idea what nationality the pitcher was and wanted to remember to look it up this morning. I wondered why he would need a translator as was announced when the coach went out to the mound. Glad I ran across this thread to remind me. The name makes more sense now...with the Iranian link but the Astros should take some kind of action against Gurriel.. Aren't adults growing tired of behaving like juveniles? We're certainly tired of their antics even if they aren't - that includes politicians!
