LiAngelo Ball and UCLA teammates could face 3-10 years in prison if convicted of shoplifting

If standard practices are applied, the three UCLA basketball players – including LiAngelo Ball – arrested Tuesday in mainland China under suspicion of shoplifting face between three and 10 years in prison if convicted, according to Chinese lawyers who briefed Yahoo Sports on the applicable laws. The sentencing guidelines could shift depending on the amount that the Chinese could prove was allegedly stolen. Authorities believe the players shoplifted from a Louis Vuitton store near the UCLA team hotel outside of Shanghai. The Bruins are in China to play Georgia Tech on Saturday in the season opener. The players were arrested Tuesday after local law enforcement came to the team hotel and questioned both UCLA and Georgia Tech players before taking the three away. ESPN first reported the arrests.

The timing, right before Trump arrives, is certainly interesting.

BTW, Ball’s father ought to shut his yap. He’s not helping the situation. Which, I gather, is normal for this guy.

Why couldn’t this happen to NBA lowlifes?

His big mouth dad might have just cooked his soy-sauce chicken by saying “It ain’t no big deal!” right before the press conference.

The headline just makes me LMFAO anticipating the racist head explosion by his father should that headline come true. I’d never make it as a State Dept. functionary if I had to deal with this situation because I’d be asking the Chinese just how far up under the prison they could put the kid.

These Sportsball players were clearly profiled and set up. I think UCLA, and all participants in college athletics, should take a knee until China comes to it’s senses.

They will only trash their own country.

Even though I went to UCLA back in the ‘60s during the glory years, I haven’t watched them in years. Don’t even care about looking up weekly scores.

Too much of importance going on in the world to give a rat’s ass about a bunch of NBA thugs in training.

The Chinese don’t believe in affirmative action and won’t coddle the race of professional victims. Let them howl and the sound will fall on deaf ears.

Amen, brother. I’ve enjoyed sports as much as the next guy but today the sullen, nasty behavior of these athletes has turned me off. My biggest sports enjoyment now is when I read about declining attendance or the arrest of punks like these kids.

2) Was no one at either of those institutes of higher learning smart enough to explain to those over grown, petted and pampered “athletes” what could happen if they screwed up in a communist country? Paging Otto Warmbier.

If you were the HBC and cared about the welfare of the young men on your team, do you think you might mention what might happen in the outside chance one of them might misbehave?

I am actually wondering how many times they were warned......

I rooting for 3 years. Let the thug rot while his career disappears in a Chinese prison.

Maybe, just maybe, some other thug will learn the lesson that acting black is a recipe for disaster. Maybe if they joined American culture and started behaving (acting white) they could live better, safer, more prosperous lives.

Who am I kidding. the thugs will say that he’s being oppressed by the man and they’ll riot and kill the local Asian grocer in their own neighborhood. Then they’ll complain that their no shopping in the hood and they have to go miles just to find groceries.

“I am actually wondering how many times they were warned......”

Probably many times.
The problem is the athletes have gotten away with so much back home that the warnings meant nothing to them.
Their parents and coaches covered for them in HS and college so they think rules don’t apply to them in the wider world.

As my dad said “Hard heads make for soft asses”.
