I can't even find a picture of that car on the Internet. It was a four door, stick shift. Aluminum block, the carburetor had a glass front so you could see gas in it. I sold it in 1986. I don't remember if it was a 2.0L

It wasn't my first car, but had a '67 Riveria Gran
Sport that looked like this one.  That thing got
9 miles to the gallon (12 on the highway).  It
had been an executive's car at Buick, and still
had the executive ID sticker on it.  Co-workers
thought I was in the Mafia or something, being
able to afford such a car.  LOL

Those were pretty solid cars, if I recall.

1959 Austin Healey “BugEye” Sprite.
Only enough room for me and my girlfriend.
Less than a buck for a weeks gas.
Could always find a spot to park in the school parking lot.
Not my original one but I still have one.

‘86 Volkswagen Jetta Coupe (one of only ~1200 brought into the U.S.)

Swapped in a 2.0L 16v, added rear disc brakes from a Corrado, full interior from a GTI, Eurosport Accessories front upper and lower stress braces as well as rear stress brace. Mid body brace and trailing arm off a GTI, all rubber bushings replaced with polyurethane ones, stainless steel braided brake lines, lightened flywheel, Kent cams, power sunroof actuator off an Audi (replaced the hand crank), upgraded wiring harness, 90-92 euro “big bumpers”, Corrado wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE71’s, GLI fender flares, trunk lid spoiler and rear trim panels, Eurosport exhaust, and a new paintjob.

my first car from 1964 through 1969 was a 1930 Model A Ford tudor sedan. Bought the car in 1962 for $125.00. Over the next two years, under my dads supervision, rebuilt the engine, trans, rear end, brakes and did the body work.

'61 Chevy Bel Air - got it in late '68 when I got my license and it did the job and took a lot of abuse. 235 CI engine with 135 ponies and a 2-speed Powerglide tranny would put it at over 84 mph if the road was long and level enough...and you had the time....

Loved having the freedom it gave but don't miss a thing about it.

$60 for a HS senior in 1962 was a bit of change.(At least for this senior). But, I got terms...$15 a month. It was basic transportation and I only had it for about six months until I transitioned into a ‘57 Pontiac Star Chief convertible.

Now talk about a chick magnet.

1972 Cutlass S. Paid $800 for it in 79.

My first new ride was a 1986 Mazda B-2000 King Cab pick up. Bought it on Guam for about 10000 less than it would have cost to buy it here in the states. The price went up $500 while it was still on the ship but I had already signed the papers and had the cheaper price locked in.

1) 1957 Nash Metropolitan.....my dad bought it for $300, gave me a basic tool set of my own, and said “when it is repaired to my satisfaction, you can drive it”. So I did.

2) it had wheels and an engine

3) the carb wouldn’t stay adjusted.

4) no.

About the same here a 1977 Olds Cutlass. Metallic gold but GM called it something different. 350 Rochester Quadrajet, TH350 until I killed it. Would buy used tires for back, because I’d tear the s*** out of them constantly.

Lots of HS dating in that thing. Remember taking it to the prom, the starter solenoid crapped out and I had to reach under the car to smack the starter to engage it.

Sold it because it got 8 miles per gallon and I was stupid enough to think that was a good reason. I still look online for this or maybe a 1970.
