Australian guitarist and AC/DC co-founder Malcolm Young has died aged 64 after a long battle with dementia.

He died peacefully on Saturday with his family nearby, a statement said.

Young will be remembered for his powerful rhythm guitar riffs that were instrumental in propelling the Sydney heavy rock group to stardom.

Three Young brothers have been part of AC/DC's history, including lead guitarist Angus. Producer George Young died in October.

Sky Pilot by the Animals and Mull of Kintyre by Paul McCartney. And there are synthesized ones in The Who’s “How can you do it alone?”

How’s that? :-)

Saw a interview with Malcolm from back (I think) in the 1990s. He was a heavy drinker/party hound. He said at one party his sister-in-law recorded him on VHS. After he saw the tape he quit drinking.

They're playing AC/DC all over the dial today. I heard Thunderstruck, which is one of my favorite songs of all time.

It's been decades since I played music as loud as I played that song today.

RIP Malcom. RIP our youth as well.

My father passed last year just 3 months shy of 84. His condition was very short, only over the course of several months but the demise was severe. He was in and out of intensive care and the hospice for 6 weeks. In the end he was no longer able to swallow food and drink without the aid of a feeding tube. As per his wish we took him off it and within 4 days he passed away on Father’s Day. At least he got to see everyone before his passing, although he couldn’t remember everyone.

If you watch Bon, before he joined AC/DC, with bands like Fraternity, he was nothing like his AC/DC persona. It was obvious once he joined AC/DC he modeled himself after his hero, Alex Harvey. But he became one of the great all-time rock frontmen.

Grew up with ac/dc in my 8-track player, then my cassette player and so on and so forth..

I miss real music..

The crap today, I can’t tell if it’s rap, pop or country.. it’s all starting to sound the same.

"Only thing of interest to me was the elder Young being a founding member of the Easybeats."

To be clear, for those not in the know: The 'elder' Young is brother George, who passed away a month or so ago.

"...Malcolm Young of AC/DC dies at 64 years..."

RIP, Malcolm. You’re a rock n’ roll great.
Enjoyed each of the half-dozen or so AC/DC shows attended.

It’s a Long way to the top - AC/DC
Hair of the Dog - Nazareth (prop only used to hide the tube effect)

“Never a fan of AC/DC. Only thing of interest to me was the elder Young being a founding member of the Easybeats.”

Malcolm and Angus were the youngest of eight children. George, the brother who was in the Easybeats, was #5 IIRC. He died not yet a month ago, aged 70. After the Easybeats, he and Harry Vanda formed a very successful and influential songwriting and production team. Alex, who I think was brother #2, stayed in Scotland when the family moved to Oz and later started a band called ‘Grapefruit.’ He died aged 58. Stevie Young, who recently took Malcolm’s place in the band, is their nephew by the oldest of the siblings, Stephen.

Looks like they struck a deal with the music gods and traded longevity for talent.

Darn that Keith Richards, he’s going to outlive us all. And he only lives a few miles from me.

We need to take care of the environment and think about the world we are going to leave to Keith Richards.

I don’t think Keith Richards will notice the state of the environment. He’ll be just fine.
