I've scoured the Interweb for insights into Malcolm's religious views, and nothing came up. Maybe someone can post something definitive.

True, his hard-drinking life isn't what God promulgates, but can't we believe conversion can come just as easily on the Highway to Hell as on the Road to Damascus?

Maybe, just maybe, the past three years that Malcolm was with dementia on the outside, on the inside it has been a period of conversion, of preparation for one of the greatest rhythm guitarists and songwriters since Pete Towhsnend.

I actually played (bass) in a band named ThunderStruck back in the 80’s and we covered some AC/DC (Back in Black, Highway to Hell and Hell’s Bells) seems like such a long time ago.

Extra Prayers for those in the spotlight, for to whom much is given, much is expected. I can’t speculate on the disposition of the deceased paragons of Rock and Roll but I certainly look forward hearing what they have to add to the heavenly chorus when/if I get the chance to join the choir.

Apparently you did not catch exactly what I was presenting. He has passed on & I was hoping that he wasn't on the real highway to hell, not that I have any reason to think he would be. After all, it was just a lighthearted play on the title of the song by the band & his passing from this life. The same holds true with my fake claim of an imminent rumor regarding him as an intro for the bands song: Touch To Much. Playing obviously on the climate of claiming sexual harassment for just about anything that some females say constitute as such. Not mocking those who actually have experienced real sexual harassment & assault, but rather the broad swath that now seems to qualify.

Then the singer says he is headed to the “promised land”, followed by the next line, where he says he is “on the highway to hell”.

My youngest brother was an ac/dc fan way back, and admitted to me that he avoided listening to that song. He knew the words to it. I only listened to it a couple of times. Heard enough to know it wasn’t something that a Christian would embrace. What’s bad for the weak, is not good for the strong.

Music is effective at affecting rational; even distracting common sense. Many pulpit pimps use music to back up their emotional pleas to the listeners; whether it be a direct plea for giving money, or making a commitment of self (that may lead to a giving of money at a later date).

The moral of the story: don’t let music drug you, bro.

I grew up during the "devil worship" phase of rock music vilification by Those In Power. As a kid, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest and others were the go-to music for those of us who weren't on the football team or popular. Most of us would crank their tunes during the day, say our prayers at night, and go to Church on Sunday.

We would see televangelists rant and rave that listening to this music would ruin society and the kids would start worshipping Satan...well, here is a news flash: our parents listened to Sinatra and Perry Como and got divorced and destroyed the family. Even the televangelists were proven to be money whores and cheats.

The other thing was that the claims by those in authority were so pathetic. Sure, I can get my arms around Slayer not being good for little Mary's tender ears (personally I don't like their music and I think Kerry King has issues) and that some of the syntax in Highway to Hell may not perfectly bring glory to God...and that whole bat thing with Ozzy didn't help. But when I read some that some religious dude thinks Pat Benetar's "Hell is for Children" is evidence of satanic music, the case suffers.

I'm older now (aren't we all?). I still believe Tipper Gore and the PMRC were a crock and it is sad that Zappa is gone. I also believe Highway to Hell pushed kids to be devil worshippers as much as Wagner's Ring Cycle pushed incest. But I have seen more performers being open and blatant about their disdain for religion and unchanging morals. I see death metal bands that openly push satan. These things should be called out and - here is the key - PARENTS need to step in.

I hope this is clearer and my apologies for getting things wrong (especially for Robert DeLong). Again, nobody knows what was in Malcolm's heart before he died. I hope he was at peace with our Lord. AC/DC is pretty low on the devil worship index for me but I always preferred the The Who anyway. So let us all Rock on and go to Church today. Thanks for listening.

Well, the “hey Satan, paid my dues”, must fit in there somewhere I suppose.

But I would guess that, since there is no specific mention of the town, the bulk of rock and roll listeners hadn’t a clue. This morning I asked the bassist at our church (58, and a rock band member in his younger days), if he had heard the background story to the song. He said he hadn’t, and that it didn’t matter, saying: “I have enough exposure to things that work against my living for God. Why intentionally add thoughts that don’t help me or those around me?”

That’s a reason that I don’t listen to pulpit pimps. While they can say a lot of good things, it’s the lies that I don’t want to hear. So I don’t listen to them at all.

Probably the worst album I had was a tie between Kiss and Alice cooper, although a girl friend I dated briefly talked me into buying an Elton John album (I didn’t tell my friends); yes, that was a pathetic purchase. After getting married, my wife (we met in a bar) found those records in the closet, and was surprised that I had those and a few other lame lps.

But, 4 yrs later, we both were born again, and the “old things are passed away, and all things become new”, literally got underway. One of the old things was music that didn’t glorify God. The rock, blues, jazz, and country music that didn’t promote a healthy and/or Godly life, were burned. No regrets

I totally understand what you're saying. There are a few albums in my collection that don't get played anymore. Further, there are songs by my favorites I refuse to sing due to lyrical content. I also see stuff with fresh eyes - I don't think Led Zeppelin backmasked satanic messages but, yea, they sure ripped off lots of blues men and Jimmy Page was a pedophile and probably has met a few demons. Even with AC/DC...Brian Johnson is pretty anti-religion and I'd NEVER be caught wearing devil horns. Finally, I love Pink Floyd but I'll never spend a dime henceforth in support of that anti-Semite Roger Waters.

I went on a rant earlier this year after the massacre at an Arianna Grande concert in the U.K. My point wasn't that her lyrics and show are good - they're trash - but that we'd rather bash the entertainer than do the HARD work of parenting, of self-evaluation. Indeed, even on the topic of AC/DC, if a parent restricted his kids music collection to Gregoria's Chant, I may disagree with that choice (though I'd prefer Chant to Slayer) but I'd support their right to make that choice, and applaud their effort.

I would NEVER tell anyone what to do with their music (or book) collection. Indeed, you and your bride are to be commended for doing the hard work - of "removing the wooden beam" in your eye, so to speak. Hopefully, God has mercy on my soul if I am in error, for I haven't lit up the sky with my refuse.

I liked AC/DC, Black Sabbath, & Alice Cooper, but never really got into Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest as I had grown out of the heavy metal music, about the time when they ousted Ozzy Osborne from the band. Though I do like You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ by Judas Priest.

Seems to me that almost 95% of ALL songs by AC/DC relate to either sex, drinking, or evil of some type.

Off my head the only song I can thing=k of not related to the above is “Mistress for Christmas”.
