I’d agree to cause and effect, but I suspect hemlines went up because of shaving, and not the other way ‘round. Either way, both are good things.

This just isn’t true at all. My wife is Japanese I know for a fact that they have hair in the places you listed. Just like everyone else - some women have more than others.

Yes they do as another poster pointed out but I know one Asain woman who does not need to use any form of underarm deodorant, no matter how hot/smelly everyone else is.

As a man, I am not a fan of my own body hair, in fact I trim, and I shave my armpits even. I Think underarm hair on a man looks almost as nasty as on a woman.

Hah! Never thought of that! Common sense would say you're wrong, though. Perhaps it had more to do with mass production thus affordability of women's sheer hosiery? I find it doubtful that any woman on earth would willingly become a slave to men's razors if not for the sake of beauty. In those days, unlike now, beauty was valued as it had been in the Ancient world and then again after the Renaissance. (Which is why I'll never tire of Melania Trump's emphasis on beauty like a goddess from Ancient Greece,)
