I’m at the age where I wish concerts began at 4pm.

And The Mavericks are the best band around, IMHO.

Pere Ubu
Randy Newman
The Sadies
Gospelbeach

I almost saw Brit Floyd when they came to Louisville, but the ticketmaster (or whatever firm it was) additional fee was insulting and I decided to not go.

I forgot why I stopped seeing concerts decades ago. The last concert I saw was Genesis at the Paramount in Seattle around 1980. I believe tickets were somewhere in the $7 range.

Two weeks ago, I saw a performance of Georg Friedrich Händel's Messiah, featuring 196 vocalists and 25 instrumentalists at St. Matthew's Methodist Church in Hacienda Heights, Calif. And last Sunday, I attended a Christmas concert by the Orange County Symphony Orchestra in Anaheim, Calif.

Joe Jackson (New Wave one, not Michael Jackson’s A-hole dad)
Huey Lewis & The News (great horn section)
Strutter (a KISS cover band)
Hairball (80s Hairband revue)
Jackyl (you may know them for The Lumberjack Song, which Rush used for his Environmental Wacko update)
MC Lars (nerdcore rapper)
Simon Estes with the Iowa State University concert band (great operatic baritone/bass)
And next week, Mannheim Steamroller (and their Christmas show)

He’s a big ol lefty. Caught him at a free outdoor festival... otherwise he wouldn’t be on my list.

One. Had lunch with Free Republic’s own singer/songwriter Left That Other Site. She sang to my husband and me all through the meal. BEST LUNCH EVER! Ask her about her parody songs!

Used to go to a LOT of concerts but haven’t been to one in a in quite a while.
Have a huge collection of ticket stubs, most of them range in prices from 20-$40 dollars.
Maybe that’s why i don’t go anymore new stubs would be like $80-$150.....that plus i’ve somehow gotten older.

None. Not worth the exorbitant prices.

^^this^^

I was asked, in a sort of accusational way, by a friend why I, as a musician myself, never bother to go to concerts. I told him the price - especially the part added by the ticketing company - was insulting and I couldn’t, in good conscience, supprt the concerts by paying that much.

That being said, when you have a large 4k TV and blue ray player, you can enjoy them at home for a fraction of the price, better seating, less parking hassles, less rude people, less vomit, and no long drive home.

It’s a win-win. I kinda would have liked to see brit floyd, and even started to buy a really good seat for around $50, but at the online checkout, the fee added by the ticket company was prohibitive. It wasn’t that I couldn’t afford it. It was the principle.

I saw the Beach Boys at Safeco feild about seven or eight years ago. But we got the tickets free through a radio station. I think it was either KVI or KTTH. We ended up in the front row right in front of the stage.

Interesting side twist: My wife and I got up and started slow dancing to a song in the empty floor area in front of us and I looked up and we were on the big TV. :)

None. Not worth the exorbitant prices.

On the surface, there isn't a plethora of really strong contemporary acts nowadays or anything out there good is pricey...

OR...Maybe not.

How many of us listen exclusively to Classic Rewind or Classic Vinyl on XM but won't take a chance on Underground Garage or Octane or any other new music channel?

When was the last time people got out to clubs and soaked in 5 or 6 unsigned bands for a $10 cover charge? Yea, most of them will suck but there WILL BE one or two that are good enough to compel people to maybe part with $5 for their self-recorded/totally DIY CD or other merchandise.

I love my Who and Hendrix, but I believe if I don't try to listen to, and buy some new band's music then rock will go the way of blues, jazz, and classical and become a marginal art form. Indeed, had we not been willing to take a chance on Trump, we'd have President Clinton beating Jeb! in the last election.

I would submit that there IS a supply of good, young (and maybe middle age) bands out there...our job is to find them otherwise all we're going to get is corporate, spoon-fed globalist dreck like Arianna Grande, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran et al.

Saw Pavlo, the Canadian / Greek fusion guitarist in a small concert hall in Wickenberg. Outstanding.

Saw a lot of recorded Jason Ricci — wow, what a harmonica player.

Tried to see Buster Brody but he canceled due to a booking error.

About six classical performances of the West Valley Symphony — all good.
