Investigators believe the victim’s dogs, described as pit bulls, initiated a “violent” attack on Stephens while she was out walking them.
"The victim had defensive wounds on her hands and arms trying to keep the dogs away from her, which would be consistent with being attacked while she was still alive,” Agnew told reporters during a Friday afternoon news conference.

The dog of love strikes again.
Some theorize that a dog, feral or domestic, could be stirred up by the scent of a young female. They sense the presence of pheromones. I know it sounds nuts, but these are animals who have a much higher sense of smell than we do. Not something most people want to bring up for serious discussion. I’m sad for the young lady and her family.
My son and his fiancé have a golden retriever (girl) and a half black lab and retriever (boy).
The girl is submissive and obedient to my daughter in law. The boy not so much. And he sniffs at her like she was a pork chop in a way that would get Al Franken in trouble.
He has no respect for her but snaps like a punk in prison when my son or I talk to him.
Moral of the story; Women cannot be the alpha in a pack.

The dogs appeared to have been bred for fighting, he added. It took deputies 60 to 90 minutes to catch the pair after arriving at the scene.
Investigators remained there for eight hours, collecting more than 60 pieces of evidence. According to the sheriff, there were numerous articles of torn clothing and under clothing scattered in the area not far from where Stephens died.
“It was an absolutely grisly mauling,” Agnew said. “In my 40 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I hope I never see anything like it again.”
Friends, meanwhile, were in disbelief that Stephens died at the hands of her dogs — the same ones, they said, that she had raised since the two were puppies. One of her best friends, Barbara Norris, told television station WRIC in Richmond. she didn’t believe the dogs would harm Stephens.
“I wasn’t able to see the body, so I can’t tell you what happened. I can’t tell you if it was a blunt force or if it was a mauling, but I know those dogs didn’t do it,” she said.
Other friends also questioned whether her pets were responsible, telling WRIC that before Stephens died, she had received death threats.

I don’t by the other animal theory, these two would have been more that enough to had stopped almost any such an attack and even if they were ‘overpowered’ they themself would have evidence of being in a fight.

Moderate pit bulls.
You might as well own a lion. This dog is the Islamist breed of dogs. And they go for the jugular. Their bite is almost as strong as an alligator and they instinctively go for the neck. If they clamp down, you're history.
Though I'm not in favor of government regulation, this dog should be banned from pet ownership. Just round them up and shoot them. Or sell them to the Chinese for dinner.
OMG, this is horrible. Have had friends who were pit bull owners, and never a problem with them, even with complete strangers. Lots more to this story?

I had two come on my country road one time years back - there mouth, jaws are for ripping mauling and killing. And this stupid idiotic moron kid said oh its a terrier. With a mouth from the seventh layer of hell.
I guess that it is possible that the woman attacked the dogs and they were just defending themselves? I am sure that there are people who have pit bulls that never never had a bit of trouble with them, but there is a clear record that for some reason bit bulls have s switch inside and who knows why but when it goes off watch out.
