“Frankly indentured servitude would be preferable for most of the inner city urban that the democommies refuse to educate, at least they would get a productive skill set, instead of a failed education to prison pipeline/death.”
It would be fascinating to put this to a vote in south Chicago where all the violence is taking place.

On a Louis Henry Gates genealogy show, he documented how indentured servants were routinely cheated into serving more than their 10 year time. Ages were changed for children to lengthen their term of service. Adults had little say if and when their contracts were changed. After the emancipation of slaves in the USA, their status changed in most states to indentured servants with lifetime commitments. The reality of indentured servitude is not the academic contract law version.

What does any of that have to do with what I posted?
Might be illegal but we all know there are too many slave traders here in the states. You would think the African American community would be rioting about the sex-trade here.
Thanks for taking the time to post these articles. I don’t reply here much but I read each of them and always with interest and thought provoked by your articles and posts.
It was very easy to get into a situation where your indentured servitude period was extended. Displease the mistress or master in some way, cost them some property loss and you would find years tacked onto your contract.
Remember lives were relatively short then when compared to today. An “extended” contract where the servitude period is now 10 years or doubled to 14 years could make the difference between “indentured servitude” and slavery a matter of semantics to the “servant”!
“You are told what to wear, when & where to work & live and when to go put your life on the line to defend this country. Even slaves were seldom ordered into battle.”
Yep. Better chance of surviving it these days, though.
