Not downplaying or sugarcoating anything. Pointing out that none of this is unique to the NFL. It’s been happening for years for the other sports and the rest of TV. It just finally caught up to the NFL. If all this had started 5 to 10 years ago for the NFL like it did for everybody else nobody would notice. The NFL had enough momentum to avoid the early waves, but change comes for all.
It’s not the money, it’s the age. The under 30 set just aren’t as into sports, or any other scheduled event for that matter, as previous generations. Everybody’s got to learn how to navigate around the new demographics. The only new part about any of this is it hitting the NFL. But luckily for them they’re the NFL, even with the ratings down they’re still leagues above everybody else, even if attendance is down it’s still got the highest per-game attendance, and they’re still going to make the most money. In the end they’ve got the most room for error and the most wiggle room to learn to deal with the new normal.
OK, discount everything I pointed out with the KC situation in order to claim all is still well with the NFL. I know it is not from experience, but continue to try to sugar coat it.
CGato
I didn’t discount anything. I’m pointing out that it matches trends in other sports that have been going on for years. Do you think the MLB is on the brink of death? Nascar? NHL? They’ve all been facing the same problems for longer, with less cushion in their revenue.
Keep in mind that while ratings last year dropped 8% revenue went up by almost the same percentage to just over 13 billion dollars. We’ll know what’s really going on with the NFL when the season ends and we get the revenue numbers. And when season ticket time starts. For right now all the data points to nothing happening to the NFL that isn’t happening across the industry.
It was a concert in a park many ,I,es from the stadium. Just the thug population watching him
Yes, you did. I pointed out the fact that KC area has some of the richest counties in the country. That’s why they don’t have any problems selling out when they are competitive. Trust me, I understand from the past how it can be hard to get tickets and prices because you have to compete with this type of demand. From my personal observation, I can see the damage the NFL has done to itself, just on this alone.
While I did say what you’re saying around the country may be true but try to understand, the KC Chiefs situation don’t necessarily fit that mold. I’ve also come to the understanding, the decline in many sports across the grid is most likely from all the leftist policies over the last 30 to 50 years, trying to get rid of the middle class and make us all poor and servants to a statist government. I do believe this also has much to do with the decline of sports attendance and such around the country.

The plural of anecdote is not fact. You point to an anecdote. I’m pointing to FACTS. Here are the facts on the table:
The NFL’s ratings drop is lower than that being experienced by the rest of TV:
http://deadline.com/2018/01/cable-2017-network-ratings-rankings-scorecard-1202235144/
https://www.thewrap.com/broadcast-tv-ratings-nbc-cbs-abc-fox-cw/
Ad revenue is up during NFL games:
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/despite-ratings-issues-nfl-ad-revenues-september/169565
Most revenue projections have the NFL topping $14 billion:
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2017/03/06/Leagues-and-Governing-Bodies/NFL-revenue.aspx
And Verizon just doubled what they’re paying the NFL:
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21737823/verizon-nfl-agree-new-5-year-deal-worth-nearly-25-billion
Now what part of those facts says the NFL is damaged in any way? How many $14 billion dollar companies with 7% growth are you also insisting are in trouble? Your anecdote just plain don’t matter.
Wow, you must have something to do with the NFL to be acting like a Baghdad Bob for them. I know my team, the city, the history of fandom with them. I know they have damaged their brand from a personal standpoint. I also understand the how the leftist culture has damaged the middle class to explain why there is declines in sports across the grid but continue to sound more and more like a shill for the NFL.
CGato
The facts are in. If there’s any Baghdad Bob here it’s the folks who insist all the rating drop must be from their boycott, studiously ignoring what’s happening to the rest of TV and sports, and also ignoring that NFL revenue is trending up. You’re the guys insisting the NFL is being slaughtered in the field while they’re projected at 7% revenue growth.
Well this is interesting. All season they have been telling I s viewership is down 10% but now they say 33%. The 33% is supposed to be half anti- kaeperknicking. That says 16% is disgust with kaeperknicking. Nice.
You remind me of the crazy stock traders on the old Yahoo stock message boards. They would push anything to defend their investments or ties to a company and would ignore everything else.
CGato
Again, that’s YOU. I gave you the facts, you’re ignoring them.
No, you act like you have something at stake here just like those crazy stock traders I mentioned. I did suspect some of them were shills for the company’s stock message board though. Even one CEO was suspected to shill on his own stock message board so I wouldn’t doubt it happens.
You sound like you are here for damage control.
CGato
Which of my facts do you refute? So far since I gave you all those links all you’ve got is personal attacks. Refute a fact or STFU.
I quit the NFL the 2nd week of the season after some idiot on the Redskins defense went off about Trump in an on-field, post-game interview (whatshisname- makes tons of money and I don’t give a damn).
Since, I have had no idea how bad the Deadskins were this year, and don’t care to know.
Okay, if that’s real information it’s worth knowing. What’s your source?
“Im one. And Ill never start watching again. Not even the superbowl. Traitors!”
I agree. Never again.
I just don’t get people on this site that are still watching.
The players would burn the American flag on the field
(if they thought they could get away with it)
and yet people here are still watching.
I guess they really don’t love the American flag.
And this... I’m just watching college ball.
Where did these players learn this hate America?
Where is it that they can get away with rape
and still play?
It’s not a personal attack, just an observation dealing formerly dealing with lots of posters who had these kinds of things at stake and how crazy they get defending them just like you are.
I gave you some facts and you ignored them and downplayed them, just like those crazy stock investors did who had something at stake, LOL.
CGato
Only 33%?
65 has most of the links. The chart of revenue through 2016 is here:

They’re making money hand over fist.
