Poll: 33% of NFL fans 'purposely stopped watching' this season
Yahoo ^ | January 8, 2018 | Daniel Roberts

Throughout this 2017 NFL season, television ratings have declined and fans, TV pundits, and reporters have speculated as to the biggest cause. On social media, many people railed that players protesting during the national anthem led outraged Americans to boycott.

A new survey from SurveyMonkey and Ozy Media, shared first with Yahoo Finance, finds that 33% of NFL fans boycotted the league this year—but not entirely because they were outraged by the player protests. Nearly equal proportions boycotted in support of Colin Kaepernick or the protests as boycotted in support of President Trump, who vocally opposed the protests.

Compared to a lot of what’s on the NFL is holding quite strong. I’m not defending anybody, I’m just pointing to the truth. of course you have a long history of studiously ignoring the truth, and I’m sure you’ll ignore this one too. But that doesn’t change the basic fact that, once again, you are wrong.

I haven’t watched more than a few minutes of any game since the mid 80s.

The only reason I saw that much was being around someone else’s TV or at some restaurant.

I’d bet that another couple years will prove just how mistaken your assertion is.

If you are dumb enough to waste $3000 on season tickets for that anti American crap then you probably went to the games to justify your stupidity but next year , you are out. You will see massive discounting by owners to try to get seats sold at some price. Letters will soon fly offering 50% discounts if you but two years etc. We are not going back. The NFL accommodated racists anti american “sons of bitches” and it has ruined them. I call for a full out steroid investigation into pro football. We want to know if that is a problem but we all know the answer.

As a former business strategy professor it’s fascinating for me to watch the NFL kneel away such intense customer dedication. They’ve fumbled goodwill away and aren’t even trying to get it back. It’s fun to watch how this all plays out. I’ll stop now before I get called for intentional punning.

Why would pro-Kap and pro-kneelers fans boycott the games? Doesn't make sense. If anything, they are more likely to watch than boycott.

I am calling BS on this one.

Time will tell.
In the meantime, in my house, the NFL is already dead, as in completely.

Sad.

First off, I still like pro football but do not care for what this league is doing. I only watch my team but haven’t bought any NFL merchandise, try not to buy from their sponsors, and haven’t bought any tickets to any games even though I have had some opportunities to do so.

If the NFL doesn’t straighten their act up, I would gladly move on to another pro league if the opportunity arises. With the NFL turning off their fans with this anti-American garbage, they are opening up those opportunities for another pro league.

This is an observation that this league has done much damage to their fanbase from what I’ve observed with the KC Chiefs. Down the stretch the Chiefs were in the drivers seat for the AFC West title and a playoff spot. I noticed tickets to the last couple of home games were very cheap and then noticed there was a lot of empty seats for those games. That’s not normal for the Chief’s fanbase when they were fighting for a playoff spot.

When they earned a home playoff game, I couldn’t believe how cheap the tickets were. That’s not normal either for the Chief’s fanbase but they were able to get the stadium mostly full but they had to lower ticket prices to get the demand. After seeing all this at the end of the year, I do believe the NFL leadership has done a lot of damage to their league.

I think this is quite on the high side judging by my own experience at my club. I was part of a group that regularly watched the games on Sunday afternoon. I completely stopped but I don't think any of the others have stopped at all. (There were usually between five and 15 watching, so not everyone was as regular a watcher as I. I still sometimes go on Sunday afternoon, just not for football, and the TV crowd looks pretty much the same to me.)

Agreed. And the “bleeding” will continue.

The next milestone in the NFL’s demise is when people renew their season tickets. When does the renewal happen? Mid-late summer?

Anyway, it is amusing to watch.

Time has told. Here’s a list of networks and they’re average ratings this year compared to last:
http://deadline.com/2018/01/cable-2017-network-ratings-rankings-scorecard-1202235144/

Almost everybody is down.
Here’s the list for broadcast networks:
https://www.thewrap.com/broadcast-tv-ratings-nbc-cbs-abc-fox-cw/

Only NBC is down less than 10%.

How we digest entertainments is changing. NFL is nowhere near dead. I’ve heard the same dire predictions for the movie industry on this board for over a decade, meanwhile they hauled in 11 billion dollars last year. There’s nothing quite so good for the bottom line as having FREEPers insist you’re dead.

Because they media and left would have destroyed them for being racist if they quashed it immediately. They stopped televising it and took way their soapbox. Which in my opinion is all the NFL is guilty of, being a giant megaphone for leftist to try and spread their crap.

Boycotting the NFL over idiots like kapernick is like boycotting the USA cause of idiots like nancy pelosi

There’s a change going on in how people consume entertainment, especially the young adults.

I watched a few minutes of the halftime show at the College National Championship game last night. Good God! There were people in the audience who actually seemed to enjoy that. Sad.
