Although the word “hegemony” itself is neutral, it has become a catchword of the left, and when used by them, has negative connotations. It is sometimes even used to criticize America’s largess and generosity to poorer countries, claiming an ulterior motive, as in the following anecdotal sentence:

“The only reason the USA provided aid after the earthquake was to establish American hegemony over that geopolitical sphere.”

It is a real word, but contains the same propaganda value as “Imperialism”, and “Capitalism”, which are similar favorites of Marxist polemic.

It is a real word, but contains the same propaganda value as “Imperialism”, and “Capitalism”, which are similar favorites of Marxist polemic.

I have posted the same feelings re the use of Hegemony the past two decades. Often it is an overused word when a freeper posts an article from any communist, socialist or jihadist controlled country.
