No, please see post #68.
After my local Sears bites the dust, I’ll be more forceful next time. ;-)
(#58)
Costco probably marks up the price of each and every tree to cover just such contingencies.
Just like every store marks up the price of goods to counter shoplifting.
Really?
He did nothing? I’ll refrain from saying what I think of your father.
But I bet your sister wishes he had stopped the theft.
I do not think Home Depot will do that anymore. IF you put oil in it then you can not return it. Same with snow blowers, lawn mowers, etc.
I bought a Porter Cable air compressor/nail gun kit at Home Depot. It was on special because someone had returned it previously. It was supposed to be brand new. I bought it from the store manager for $100. Regular retail $249. When I got it home the purge valve on the bottom of the tank was damaged so that it would not hold pressure. I brought it back the next day. It turns out that the previous person who returned it had swapped it out with the same compressor that was about 3 years older. This was according to the SKU/model number symbol on the compressor. The box was brand new. The compressor was old. They must have bought a new one and then returned the 3 year old one. They gave me a new one. I kept the nail guns. They were all brand new.
So, I asked the manager what was the worst scum bag move someone tried to pull. She stated that someone tried to return an “air conditioner”. Except, inside the box were two cinder blocks. No air conditioner.
That reporter is very sheltered.
If he had ever worked in a schlub retail job like most of the rest of us he’d have known that people make insane, outrageous merchandise returns all the time.
A store that requires customers to purchase a membership just to shop there will only foster such behavior, it’s their own fault.
Costco likely has their new signs all ready for next year....TREE SALES FINAL - NO REFUNDS.
Our Boy Scout Troop sells wreaths and, later, trees. This was an awful year for evergreens. Not sure why-- something about the weather this particular season, I think.
Wreaths would brown up quickly, and both wreaths and trees were dropping needles like crazy.
Just a bad year.
I specifically used the word: “audacity” for good reason. :-)
12 to 13% according to the most recent numbers I have heard.
Well, bless your heart.
Thanks for the info, no Costco where I live. I guess in this case, the customer is always right.
What you can’t make up is that she actually got her money back - but now the people at the store can bask in the glow of their own generosity and fair-mindedness, and in a culture that values self-righteousness over all, that’s worth a lot.....
think she got the cash, rather than have it go back on here ebt card ?
Was it Hillary Clinton?
I have in-laws who do this...
If he needs a pneumatic nailer or something, buys it from Home Depot and then returns it after the job is done.
It hardly seems worth the trouble of hauling the tree back to the store and waiting in the return line.
My granddaughter works in the bakery at a grocery store. Says people bring in small pieces of specially ordered birthday cakes all the time, claiming they weren’t any good. Store always refunds their money. Disgusting, isn’t it!
