t was a rough day for the US women's Olympic figure skating team when all three women botched their solo routines for the free skating event.
Mirai Nagasu made history earlier this week when she became the first American woman - and third overall - to successfully land a triple axel in the team event, but the 24-year-old Olympian struggled Friday at the Pyeongchang Games.
After taking the ice and flawlessly performing a few moves, everyone expected Nagasu to launch herself in the air for the triple axel but she instead turned into a single axel. She finished in tenth place.

I came home the other night, turned on the Olympics, and it was this guy Rippon and an NBC commentator bantering about how they do their eyebrows. Honest to God.
Who do they think wants to watch that?
NBC decided that a skit involving Rippon and so-called comedian Leslie Jones commenting on a skating routine was great TV.
Her makeup is worth a medal.
I’m seriously thinking about getting a man bun after seeing how fabulous his was. I must have hit the mute button 100 times last night, which was every time he or Tara Lipinski opened their pie hole. OK, my wife made me watch it during intermission of the Stars-Kings game. I’m not a closet poofter.
Wow it’s a good thing nobody’s been watching it.
Yeah, I can’t imagine why NBC’s ratings suck - they probably underwrote the whole trip of the racist, unfunny Mr. Leslie Jones just to have more “diversity” in the stands and have her do a skit or two. No thanks.
I love figure skating, but the women are BORING.We will never again have a group of skaters like those in the 80’s. Boitano, Wylie, Hamilton,Petrenko,Baiul,Gordeeva and Grinkov,Torvill and Dean,Underhill and Martini. And once your a&& hits the ice you should be-IMO- out of contention. This Olympics, the Japanese have it. Even our golden boy-Chen-disappointed.
And they fall.... and win medals anyway. I just don’t think a medalist should be able to fall and still win gold because they’ve racked up more points.
They may have run off manly men. The sport isn’t as interesting anymore.
Sometimes you suck, that’s the way it is.
Gators win National Championships then look like they did this season, it happens in all sports, it’s cyclical.
I’m sorry NBC, but having to listen to Johnny Weird made me reach for the remote.
I noticed a lot less skaters at the rink after the crash. I never competed, mind you, just love the exercise and took lots of lessons as an adult skater. Skating is a very expensive sport. How many times can you re-mortgage your house just so your kid can get a chance to be one of 3 to go to Worlds? Things have changed a lot since they dropped figures. There is more emphasis on jumping and then they changed the scoring system as well. You really have to keep your weight down, and I think there are more injuries due to all the tricks they have to do now. I wonder how their bodies are going to function when they hit late 50’s....
let’s not forget Brian Boitano
Yeah, but there was nothing “flamboyant” about the way Boitano skated.
Not sure how you load up for a triple axle and only do a single, which anyone can do.
It’s nerves. You pop the jump and not much you can do.
That’s true, he was great to watch, and didn’t seem to let his politics get in the way of his sport.
He was the best I’d ever seen, regardless of his personal life.
On NBC, they showed a man on the Canadian curling team falling and the announcer declared it’s “a dangerous game out there.”
Its that gravity. Sucker never takes even a minute off! Much unlike Glowbull Warming. But lets thank God those brave curling athletes didnt have to comfort that terrifying nemesis.
