If Augusta plays short, Phil and Tiger are in the mix. Both of their games from 3 wood on up look good. The young guns, especially McElroy need to find their putters. I’d have to give the early nod to Justin Thomas. Spieth and DJ are unknowns at this point. They aren’t playing their best golf, but have shown they can up the concentration level when it matters.
I'll have to check out the layout, I think they lengthened Augusta to attempt to make it Tiger proof years ago. Add to it this is a A list field so it makes it that much harder.
According to the announcers yesterday, Tiger Woods is the only player ever to resume playing on tour after a lower back fusion operation. One of the announcers also said that Tiger’s measured swing speed this week was 127 mph, highest in the field. I doubt that pure length of the tee will be a problem with him given he maintains his current physical condition. Hitting a 7 iron half a club short on 18 from effectively 195 yards uphill into a breeze in heavy wet Florida late afternoon air is the polar opposite of short. If winning this tournament meant enough to him, he would have taken a six iron and cut it a little bit to get close enough for a reasonable birdie look.
