How McConnell and Chao used political power to make their family rich
New York Post ^ | March 17, 2018 | Larry Getlen

Peter Schweizer, who delved into the Clinton Foundation’s dealings in 2016’s “Clinton Cash,” has turned his sights to the money-making machinations of DC’s political elite. His new book, “Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends,” — due out Tuesday from Harper Collins — exposes how politicians engage in “corruption by proxy” by exploiting family and business ties to enrich themselves and their relatives. Here, The Post’s Larry Getlen details the book’s revelations on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, ex-Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and others: In 2004, current Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, current US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, had an average net worth of $3.1 million. Ten years later, that number had increased to somewhere between $9.2 million and $36.5 million.

That book will probably make my blood pressure rise.

No wonder they don’t care about the patriotic struggling American.

“The Government IS a club and you ain’t in it”.

Thank you George Carlin for speaking the truth,

Everybody turns political clout to personal gain after a while. Time for term limits.

In every government throughout history insiders have sought to enrich themselves at the public expense. Some do better than others.

When Ronald Reagan stepped down as president, he and the Mrs. needed help purchasing their post-presidency home. I think Betsy Bloomingdale gifted them enough money to buy it.

My point is that Ronald Reagan did not enrich himself just because he was in elected office.

Compare him to Obummer who got a million dollar per year pay raise passed through Congress for himself on top of what all the other president's got PLUS he got his mother-in-law a nice $180,000 per year retirement that all of us are paying for.

“PLUS he got his mother-in-law a nice $180,000 per year retirement that all of us are paying for.”

Retirement from where? Let me guess, employed as the White House nanny to her own grandchildren.

They all have to be flushed out, but the only problem is, they’ll only be replaced by more of them. Known fact, no one leaves Congress with less than they went in with, nor do they leave with what they came in with. 1.2M for six years does not come to 11M+, if they leave. Something doesn’t smell right. “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.” or “I’ll do that for you what will you do for me?” I guess that’s what they mean by politics as usual? They are all intertwined, nobody wants to give up their golden goose.

They all need to go at some point. Some need to go with extreme prejudice.

Love when they stand in front of microphone and talk about their years of “public service” knowing that it’s really “personal service.”

Even worse is when they start talking about all the “sacrifices” they have made...

I am positively no fan of the McConnells, but the Post can focus only on a Republican couple's alleged corruption?

How tediously boring...and predictable.

No on term limits... creates a worse bureaucracy of unelected bureaucrats... Byzantine Empire was a good example

The real solution is to repeal both the 16th and 17th amendments. The 17th Amendment allows for political parties along with large corporations centralized the power in Washington DC and what we are seeing currently with our Senate and House the pork barrel spending and spending in their District on related family projects and Insider stock trading.. And the 16th Amendment fuels the growth by taxing the labor of the middle class instead of having government get its revenue from trade.

The fact that congress is exempt from insider trading rules (Hello Martha !) is absolutely mind boggling.

They send people to jail that they exempt themselves from.

We ARE a banana republic

When in the inner circle of corruption... when in that club.. and you know about all the “friends” in that club... and you have no conscience ... you can turn on any one of them... and blackmail ...

11M+, if they leave.

Speaking of $11M, where did public servant, government salaried McCabe get his $11M in personal wealth?
