Brain development disorders in children linked to environmental toxins
Science Daily ^ | March 25, 2018 | Bilel Mughal

Exposures of pregnant women and children to common thyroid-hormone-disrupting toxins may be linked to the increased incidence of brain development disorders, according to a review published in Endocrine Connections. The review describes how numerous, common chemicals can interfere with normal thyroid hormone actions, which are essential for normal brain development in foetuses and young children, and suggests a need for greater public health intervention. We have reviewed the documented exposures of pregnant women and children to mixtures of thyroid-hormone-disrupting chemicals and propose that the data sets provide a plausible link to the recent increased incidence of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorders and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders."

"this review, Professor Barbara Demeneix and colleagues at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Université Paris-Sorbonne, examine published evidence of the wide variety and high number of EDCs, from pesticides to chemicals used in the manufacture of drugs, cosmetics, furniture and plastics, that can all interfere with TH. The authors further highlight that complex mixtures of these thyroid-disrupting chemicals are present in all humans, including children and pregnant women."

Plastics are #1 on the list. The ingestion of liquids in plastic containers is a daily occurrence. People sucking down water from plastic containers is ubiquitous in today's world. Plastic replacing glass may have been a big mistake.

Greater public intervention, huh... she isn’t asking for taxpayer money is she? YEP that’ll fix it! Immense quantities of soy in almost every morsel of food you eat and so many chemicals in the water..

I think it might have to do with egg and sperm donors being liberals. Poor offspring have no chance.

Does this mean that eschewing the use of items that might leech endocrine disrupters might help to avoid the disorder known as liberalism?

It’s worth considering, although I am skeptical of the article’s premise. I need to see more data. Are there a lot of endocrine disrupting chemicals in Africa? What explains the continued lack of advancement in Africa, despite decades of efforts to develop the continent? What about other third world dung holes that consistently fail to develop?

I’ve never heard of Endocrine Connections, Bioscientifica, or the Society for Endocrinology. Might behoove us to consider the source before we put much stock in this.

There are many articles on endocrine disruptors in plastic especially. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know.

These are typical medical research organizations/publishers. Endocrine Connections is a peer reviewed journal, and the Society of Endocrinology is one of many scientific societies.

The organizations are legitimate.

I question the research and conclusions. The article is not a report of research findings, but a proposal of a hypothesis formulated from established knowledge of mechanism of action of endocrine disrupters and mechanisms of neural development in young children, starting in the fetal stage.

In other words, the authors are saying that this area needs research, not that they have definitive answers.

The subject of the article is intriguing to me. We’ve seen abundant evidence of highly disordered thinking expressed by those who call themselves liberal. Not only is their thinking mind-bogglingly bizarre, but they seem incapable of grasping any logical ideas, to the point where I suspect that their brains literally lack the capability of processing logical/rational thought.

What if liberalism (or what passes for it currently) is due, at least in part, to environmental pollutants? We see “liberalism” concentrated in cities to the point that cities are dysfunctional. Could that be a result of pollution, which is quite high in the cities, affecting the neurological development of those unfortunate enough to be conceived, born, and raised in cities?

These are things to think about.

Back when I was in grammar school (1950s), we were taught that Africa was a sleeping giant and would soon awaken to lead the world.
Sixty years later and ...

My Ph.D. thesis work was in the area of environmental toxins that have endocrine disrupting effects.

;)

Is that an IQ map?

If so, I highly question the assessment of IQ in China. My understanding is that most of China is third world, barring a few developed areas.

I suspect that the high disease burden in Africa is a major contributor to its lack of development. I think that maybe inbreeding is another contributing factor, as well as culture. There are so many interdependent effects on neurological development that it becomes a real challenge to tease out the contribution of any one factor.

China graduates more engineers that most countries many times that of the US. Chinese families push their kids to accel academically. So yes if that is an IQ map it would be roughly correct and; consider many of the inventions made during the course of human civilization came from China.

We are watching ‘evolution’ at work as liberals devolve into creatures of pure emotion, incapable of logical or rational thought. Those that haven’t devolved sufficiently, flee to the countryside crowding non-liberals pushing their agendas which lead to more crowding and more ‘de-evolution’.

They are legitimate organizations. Endocrinology is a burgeoning field and I have used a number of their scientific reports to understand my daughter’s medical condition. You would be shocked at just how much the adrenal system shapes your development as a fetus.
