We'll be on vacation for a month and I intend to heavily document a lot that I would like to organize and arrange after we get back.
Amazon Prime Photos is free to Amazon Prime members for unlimited photo storage. On a side note, please be careful about posting on line about going on vacation and posting photos on facebook, etc while you’re on vacation. It’s an open invitation to burglars to rob your house while you’re away.
Yep, Facebook... Everyone at NSC will be glad to edit your pages while you are gone...BTW, think I saw your pages available on Ebay...Ah yes, Facebook.../s
iCloud is fantastic. I take photos on my phone and they are up in the cloud in a second. Then I have access to them on my computer, iPad, phone, any computer / anywhere. You can use Apple Photos to edit them and the edited version as well as the unedited original version are both available. It is a great and easy to use system. I buy 200 GB storage for $3/month.
The seamless integration of the entire thing is what makes it so easy to use.
What device are you using to record everything? DSLR, phone, point-and-shoot camera, dedicated Video camera. SD card for memory storage in your device?
You could drag along a small netbook/notebook and just put your pics/video on there, or use the Amazon options.
Don’t use Facebook, as the pictures and videos will be heavily compressed.
I would just use an SDcard or whatever your camera has.. and simply upload it to your computer once home.. I don’t trust the cloud.
Personally, I backup my video, music, and photo files with CrashPlan, which has served me well for years now.
Unfortunately, it’s dropping its “Home” version for “Business” only in August.
The recommendations within this thread will help me to find an alternative, thank you!
I have used DROPBOX for multiple years and never had a problem. They have a FREE version and you can try it out. In my cloud or Dropbox account, we have multiple scripts available that were nevr hacked and yeah, I surf too near Malibu ;)
For your purposes you'd be better off creating an account on Photobucket or TinyPic and uploading your pics there and then giving out the URL (location) to those you wish to share them with. It is much the same as Cloud storage but simpler.
Obviously, you are going to THAILAND!?!!?
If your images are all in .jpg that is an option, but they won’t save RAW files.
with a pancake on my head
You probably should check out DropBox and GPG4Win. Dropbox will allow storage of your files in the cloud. GPG4Win allows you to encrypt your files.
Going on vacation is a fairly broad term. It would help to know your mode of travel, accommodation interest, general destination.
We go on vacation in an RV, often stay in the woods (no WiFi) so we carry a laptop and several SD Cards. I intend to add an internal NAS to our RV’s home network for this summer’s trip as our current storage capacity will likely be exceeded and keeping track of all the storage cards can be a chore.
If your internet connectivity will be limited or insecure, plan to store media locally and carry it with you.
If connectivity will not be an issue then the home based NAS solution mentioned above would be my choice. I’d opt for a 4TB network drive with the modem, router, & drive all powered by a UPS.
