A Delta passenger has claimed she suffered bruised ribs after a child repeatedly kicked her on a Minneapolis-bound flight.
Sally Canario was on an overnight flight from Los Angeles to Minneapolis on April 2 when the violent incident occured, The Sun reported.
I was up against the window, trying to get some sleep on a red eye flight, she said to The Sun. A strangers daughter was trying to sleep on the plane with her head in her mothers lap and her feet in my face, in my side, and on my lap. The girl threw a bad tantrum screaming, crying, and bicycle kicking while she was trying to sleep, [but] the airline would not accommodate me for a safer, comparable seat.
The mother of three claims she sought the help of a flight attendant, but was allegedly told he could not help her.
I flagged down a flight attendant to file an injury report, she told The Sun. His response was, I am not a babysitter, you two parties need to work things out. This is a full flight. I do not take injury reports... you arent injured.
Canario also said the flight attendant accused her of being the problem.
I heard you were causing trouble and harassing the family next to you, she claims the flight attendant told her.
According to Canario, the mother of the kicking child assured the cabin crew members that she was not being harassed, The Sun reported.
Canario said the incident on the flight has left her with cartilage damage.
I am hurting on my chest from my sternum to my right rib cage, she told The Sun. It is visible asymmetry of my rib cage. My doctor assured me cartilage will heal but be painful for the next week.

Why was the child not in her own seat?..................
Flying is a total pain these daze.
It$ very painfull, both my doctor and lawyer agree. (how old was the kid? 17-18?)
She may have a case. Lucky for her, the mother of the kicky little brat seemed apologetic. Unfortunately, the flight attendant seemed braced for unnecessary battle in a power of wills.
I'll be flying to London next month, but I'll be in business class. That mitigates the pain. :-)
I feel for the injured woman — no one wants to be on a flight next to a child throwing a tantrum. But why didn’t she do something? After the first one or two kicks I either would have grabbed the child’s legs and held them down, or gotten up and stood in the aisle until the mother got her child under control. This sounds a bit like a set up for a lawsuit.
Not buying this ... “I flagged down a flight attendant to file an injury report, she told The Sun. His response was, I am not a babysitter, you two parties need to work things out. This is a full flight. I do not take injury reports... you arent injured.”
If possible, choose a seat as close to First Class as you can get, otherwise the brats behind in coach will be just as loud as if you were in coach with them.
I fly Business, NEVER coach, when flying international, if I can't get upgraded to First.
Stay far away from coach, especially on international flights.
Nothing worse than being stuck between a 400lb German that doesn't bathe and a 2-yr old brat that wants to make everyone miserable.
“After the first one or two kicks I either would have grabbed the childs legs and held them down, or gotten up and stood in the aisle until the mother got her child under control.”
The second you’d touched that child you would have been in the wrong. Legally. Don’t believe me? Try it with some random kid sometime.
I suspect that the “injuries” are extremely minor - BUT...
The parent of the child who kicked the other passenger SHOULD be the one held accountable.
My question - what would YOU do? How would you handle it if you were in a similar situation?

Seriously, you think a child can’t damage you ribcage and cartilage by a good hard kick?
You must not have raised a child...
Once flew to Schipol/Amsterdam, with connecting flight out of Detroit. The flight from Detroit laid over in Amsterdam then continued on to Mumbai. The stench of stale curry made the entire flight from Detroit to Amsterdam nauseous. The circulation of air took the smell and spread it throughout the plane, coach to first class, no one was spared.
Any 400 lb Dutch or German on the flight smelled like curry ugh. First thing I did when checking into hotel was shower. I had the curry smell all the way from Schipol to the hotel.
You’re right. Flying these days is an uncomfortable nasty process and if you’re determined to do it without paying to mitigate the risk (e.g. business or first class) they get ready to endure it.
Fly DOD “Space A” ....... retired military perk . Haven’t flown commercial since 1994. Greatest airline in the world.
You must not have raised a child................. Yup! I didn’t raise A child, I raised 5, but they did kick hard enough when they were 2-3. Maybe if they had western boots on, but they didn’t.
Bring back spanking!!!
