PC’s were obviously becoming a big deal in 1986. My boss at the time dreamed of being able to dump all of his expertise and knowledge into it, making it accessible to us mostly recent college graduates as we worked with him in geotechnical and environmental projects.
In about 1992 we had a high-school kid come in and help us with programming. He had already created and sold software for time and billing to various small companies. He was already, back then - working on using just brain signals to command a PC. I thought it was just a bunch of bunk - of course just last week on FR I read where they are making real progress on that.
Google Earth mapping was in part developed with government funds for obvious military purposes. The same company that developed Google Earth also created that Pokemon game with the GPS tracking, capturing data, etc. They were also provided with government funding.
I’m not saying the gov’t is tracking our kids doing the Pokemon game, but they sure are developing the research and the ideas on how to monitor people. Whether it is specific bad guys or everyone, I don’t know. Of course - when you don’t know who the bad guys are - it would be best to monitor everyone.
Then, when the bad guy gets caught, they already have all of his information on where he has been, who is contacts are, etc. All to keep Americans safe and in the interests of National Security of course. /s
