I have a registry hack that I run on all my new/reimaged W10 computers that disables that annoyance Cortana.

BTW: I don’t have a single W10 computer that has not had to be reset to factory after a little less than a year b/c things stop working: speakers, cameras, USB, Office programs, you name it.

I wish the B O/S had taken hold. I need Windows b/c it is the primary platform for the software I support and what I know well. But it has always been crap and W10 was crap on crap.

Windows 10 also ignores your preference for programs you want as default and changes them back to Microsoft programs.

Example, I prefer VLC as my movie and music player or Irfanview as my picture viewer but after a while it will revert back to less capable microsoft programs.

Cortana has been off my two Win10 computers that I don't even remember how I did it. I've only had to reset each once, but it's the stupid updates that kill me. Every time they 'improve' Win10, they give me something I don't want and screw up several things I rely upon. Over the next few weeks they fix most of the bugs they built into the 'update'.

Then there are the can't-leave-well-enough-alone busybodies at Firefox who keep 'improving' it. It runs great for a few days and then it continually slows down and can't find websites. I run all the 'fixes' and they either don't work or they only last a couple days. They used to have a 'health' check that lets you see how fast Firefox takes to boot. They removed it.

Daily maintenance is the way to go.
