Am contemplating replacing my Kitchenaid refrigerator. We bought Kitchenaid in 2012 and it went out in 2014. Kitchenaid deemed it not repairable and replaced it. Now the replacement refrigerator is malfunctioning and we're going to be looking at another replacement.
It seems most appliances are made by Whirlpool, including Kitchenaid. And most appliances made by Whirlpool have bad reviews.
What brand do Freepers recommend?
So far, zero problems. Love the freezer drawer. Old one was a Kitchen-Aid, still works so we use it in that garage for extra stuff.
GE refrigerators are primarily made in the USA.

I bought a house that had a deluxe level LG that I contracted to keep as it was brand new. Very nice but not made in the USA.
High end Viking is also made in the USA but they are very pricey.
Its about your budget.
Id buy a huge in the wall sub zero if I had the money and space
Due to my cabinets Ive got s shallow depth Electrolux ....about a grand
There is huge hard to figure overlap in branding...
Primary manufacturers are
Whirlpool
Frigidaire
LG
Bosch
Sanyo
Haier
GE
And some of those manufacture for one another
Samsung are made everywhere...
If youre rolling in it Lou
Northland....14,000
Sub Zero ..7500 and up
Menenghenni....Italian and gorgeous....only 45,000
Cambus.......21,000
Jenn Air owned by of course Whirlpool has some fancy models up to 20,000
Im can vouch for Electrolux
#69 I used Bar Keepers Friend (liquid version) for my stainless steel pots and pans. The product makes them look knew. I also use both the powder and liquid versions for my sinks and shower. Buy at grocery stores or Target etc.
Samsung four door - no problems so far...
My in-laws bought a SubZero and was nothing but problems and big $$ to fix. I know SubZero is good name, but not worth the extra IMO.
mt ex girlfriend is available- she’s cold as ice
What car built in the last 15 years did not have a computer?
Samsung has problems with their defrosting set-up. (I’ve had 3; youtube it)
LG is solid.
Sometimes you can select "ice cubes" and get crushed ice instead. The indicator lights show correctly, but the machine chooses something else.
That machine is unadulterated crap.
I’m impressed. I do want a two door, with an icemaker, though. I hate the three door types.
DO NOT buy a Kenmore.
My 1 yr old fridge works ok but it is loud, when not making it’s high pitched noise it makes noises like wet sneakers tumbling in a clothes dryer, then it make gurgling noises too.
completely obnoxious.
Just now it turned on again...ugh.
When it finally stops i suddenly notice the quiet and go whew..
Probably a Chinese pos.
Have a Kitchenaid 10 years, no problems. Also have Viking in another home with some minor repairs. Had a SubZero in a former condo with no problems at 15 years when I sold the condo.
Had an issue with a washer under warranty and talked to the shop. Had a GE and the service guy told me I was lucky because if they needed a part, it would take about a week to get it. Samsung’s were 6 months!! His advice was to call a repair shop before buying and get advice on quality and repair turnaround. He mentioned Bosch as being the best.
Dittoes on an LG.
Buy it. Buy it now.
Our American-made Sub-Zero (installed in 1995) is still running, although we did have some minor problems with it.
Sub-Zeros are expensive, worse now than in 1995 when we bought ours. It needed a few repairs over the years, but our repair guy is very reasonable.
We're *praying* it lasts until we move outta here in a few years, because we really cannot afford to replace it. It is built into the cabinetry, so no other refrigerator would fit in that space. :-/
Good luck, LouAvul!
Frigidaire
