Saudi Crown Prince already spearheading significant change in Saudi Arabia
Apparently he told the Palestinians that they have erred by not making peace with Israel. He is cooperating with Israel against their common nemesis Iran. This is a de facto recognition of the Jewish state. It remains to be seen if he will survive the antipathy and resentment of the fundamentalists and the jihadists. It would be important for Mossad and the CIA to infiltrate the Wahhabi and other Islamic groups to be aware of any plots they may be hatching. As they say on the street, “Watch your back”.
A REAL start....
They’re making little steps that have very good reasons behind them.
Let many women drive, and the nation that is cash strapped doesn’t have to have a million foreign drivers around. That saves them money. If more women work, that also improves their economic productivity.
Let people have movie theaters. Bread and circuses. It is a peaceful way to keep many entertained and a young population happier with the new leadership.
Permitting a few churches for Christian workers is a sop to the West. They haven’t legalized proselytizing or conversion to Christianity by Muslims. It looks good, and for the Christian workers, does some good, but it isn’t as radical a step as many think.
Saudi Arabia is pumping half-a-trillion dollars to build the city of Neom which is planned to be a global hub that connects Asia, Europe and Africa.
Saudi Arabia will also build a proposed King Salman Bridge over the Red Seas straights of Tiran which is controlled by Israel.
But the key to this whole issue is that Saudi Arabia needs broader support for Neom, and this will require getting rid of dependency on the Suez canal, and this means recognizing Israel.
The solution is the proposed Red-Med railway which will connect the Red Sea and Mediterranean via land transport.
This deal will probably help the Saudis keep their nations great wealth as the ability to do so via oil declines. Also, Israel, Egypt, and Jordan will all prosper.
Neom will supposedly have freedom of religion. We will see.
