Saudi Crown Prince already spearheading significant change in Saudi Arabia

Late last week, reports began to surface that Saudi Arabia has made a deal with the Vatican to construct churches for Christian worshippers.

Sadly, that appears to have been #FakeNews.

The Vatican has denied making a deal with Saudi Arabia to build churches for Christian worshippers in the Arab country.

However, it does appear real news from the desert kingdom shows signs that it is moving to modernize. Perhaps the most dramatic of these is that Saudi women are learning to drive motorcycles.

The Crown Prince is also strengthening ties with a key regional power: Egypt. A recent bilateral economic meeting, also encouraged by the Crown Prince, went extremely well.

Legal Insurrection readers will recall that President Trump had a very friendly and productive meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi early in his presidency. The meeting suggests the bonds between the nations, frayed during the Obama administration, continue to strengthen.

Finally, under the Crown Prince, Saudi Arabia has launched a program that may make it a global entertainment hub:

The investment programme feeds into a drive by powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to modernise his homeland, both in terms of liberalising Saudi society and reducing the economy’s overwhelming dependence on oil.

In a world where Donald Trump is President and Kayne West is now quoting Thomas Sowell, a successful Saudi movie empire is certainly possible.

Re: “Saudi women are learning to drive motorcycles.”

Do they still have to ride side-saddle?

Are churches still illegal?

Are Bibles still illegal?

IS there still the death penalty for leaving the death cult of islam?

Than no - no real changes there.

Apparently he told the Palestinians that they have erred by not making peace with Israel. He is cooperating with Israel against their common nemesis Iran. This is a de facto recognition of the Jewish state. It remains to be seen if he will survive the antipathy and resentment of the fundamentalists and the jihadists. It would be important for Mossad and the CIA to infiltrate the Wahhabi and other Islamic groups to be aware of any plots they may be hatching. As they say on the street, “Watch your back”.

King Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for a Palestinian state after his son and heir apparent said Israelis were entitled to live peacefully on their own land - a rare statement by an Arab leader.

King Salman reaffirmed “the kingdom’s steadfast position toward the Palestinian issue and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital”, state news agency SPA said on Tuesday.

Sounds like a leftie that goes off the plantation over here, LOL.

But they have been working with Israel against their common enemy, Iran. If Iran is somehow defeated, will they then turn against Israel again? Probably, but we can hope.

A motorcycle is great fun until it helps you to become a member of the Broken Angels Motorcycle Club. Saudi women would be a lot better off sticking to cars, unless the Saudis want fewer women.

Also, riding a cycle on black asphalt when it’s 110 degrees and 5% humidity is not on my Bucket List.

After the ride, you would need chap stick on your entire body!

They’re making little steps that have very good reasons behind them.

Let many women drive, and the nation that is cash strapped doesn’t have to have a million foreign drivers around. That saves them money. If more women work, that also improves their economic productivity.

Let people have movie theaters. Bread and circuses. It is a peaceful way to keep many entertained and a young population happier with the new leadership.

Permitting a few churches for Christian workers is a sop to the West. They haven’t legalized proselytizing or conversion to Christianity by Muslims. It looks good, and for the Christian workers, does some good, but it isn’t as radical a step as many think.

Saudi Arabia is pumping half-a-trillion dollars to build the city of Neom which is planned to be a global hub that connects Asia, Europe and Africa.

Saudi Arabia will also build a proposed “King Salman Bridge” over the Red Sea’s straights of Tiran which is controlled by Israel.

But the key to this whole issue is that Saudi Arabia needs broader support for Neom, and this will require getting rid of dependency on the Suez canal, and this means recognizing Israel.

The solution is the proposed “Red-Med” railway which will connect the Red Sea and Mediterranean via land transport.

This deal will probably help the Saudis keep their nation’s great wealth as the ability to do so via oil declines. Also, Israel, Egypt, and Jordan will all prosper.

Neom will supposedly have freedom of religion. We will see.
