After 14 years, I’ve had it. I’m leaving Seattle
Seattle Times ^ | 4/30/2018 | Alex Berezow

I knew Seattle was no longer a place for me when I met with Debora Juarez — the District 5 City Council member I had voted for.(snip)

I told my council member that Northgate, my home, had seen a noticeable increase in litter and graffiti. To my dismay, she seemed to suggest these issues were someone else’s job, not hers. So, I moved on to a bigger issue: homelessness.

When I first moved to Seattle 14 years ago, to attend the University of Washington, homelessness essentially didn’t exist at Northgate.(snip) Additionally, the conditions in such camps are often atrocious — not only are the homeless more likely to be victims of violent crime, they are susceptible to infectious disease(snip)

I believe strongly that it is not compassionate to leave people who are unable or unwilling to care for themselves to suffer and die on the street. Because many (but certainly not all) homeless people struggle with mental illness or drug addiction, I suggested that Seattle find a way to make it easier to provide treatment to these troubled souls — involuntarily, if need be. It could literally save their lives.

Juarez exclaimed, “What is this? Nazi Germany?”

Appalled — in part because my grandparents survived Nazi Germany — I got up and walked out.

(snip)

The $15 minimum wage has added gasoline to the fire.

(snip)

But stubborn facts and a hurting middle class don’t seem to faze the City Council, which seems far more concerned about issues over which it has zero control — such as climate change and foreign policy — than it does about issues over which it has at least a modicum of control, such as the cost of living, homelessness, crime, traffic and potholes. For our City Council, virtue signaling is more important than governing.

One of my sons has suggested Seattle as a moving destination. They might get an NHL team (we won’t move where there isn’t one). I told him, frying pan into the fire from L.A.

Crazy mindset some have.

So suggestions that we should get people off the streets, involuntarily if necessary, is like Nazi Germany? Really??

Numbnuts here doesn’t seem to understand that Progressives are all about redistribution of wealth and redistribution of misery. Obama in the WH for 8 years didn’t help, but Seattle politicians have played their part at the local level.

Litter and graffiti?? Well, some people live in crappy neighborhoods — and that’s why YOUR neighborhood now deserves to have litter and graffiti.

Homelessness? Crazy people on your sidewalk? Well, some people are living in the nightmare world of madness — that’s why YOU have to live in their nightmare world of madness.

Liberals are NOT about raising the downtrodden up out of the mire.
Liberals are about pushing the productive people down into the mire.

Equal Outcomes, man. No one said it was going to be pretty.

America’s left is nearly entirely funded by massive debt incurred in our fiat, printed currency. This money pools asymmetrically in places like Seattle, San Francisco, or Manhattan, allowing leftists to fund and operate their expensive, and destructive, social engineering schemes for many decades.

If you think $21 Trillion in debt doesn’t matter, or centrally-planned zero interest rates are good thing, then please don’t complain about the state of Seattle or California politics.

“Debora Juarez — the District 5 City Council member I had voted for”

Everything one needs to know about this guy. Why would you vote for such a person? I live in Boston and often check the blank box. I would never show support for such a person.

“I knew Seattle was no longer a place for me when I met with Debora Juarez — the District 5 City Council member I had voted for.”

The author of the article admits he has voted for the bad guys. Then he realized, 14 years later, it was toxic.

No sympathy. Please don’t move to a red area. You will mess that up too.

Family in a suburb of Seattle.

Hate to see what has happened to it. But they (my family) are supporting the very policies that have led to the decline.

Import Third Worlders en masse, get Third World political and physical environments. Just how difficult is it to understand? In time, this man will figure out that it is in his interests to leave the Third World Party (the Democrats) for the First World Party (the GOP).

Damn shame. Such an uncannily beautiful part of the country. I worked on a project there in the 90s and although it was beginning to turn lefty it wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed my time there.

I wish I knew why leftists turn great locations into sewers.

My wife and I are moving to Northern California to be near our grand-kids. My son-in law flies a “Don’t Tread on Me “ flag at his house. A welcome relief from the limousine liberals in the Silicon Valley.

My mom’s brother and his family moved to the Seattle area 50 years ago. They are nice and stay in contact with his Texan sister, but the world view difference is glaring.

Funny though. Uncle voted for Trump and his wife voted for Hillary.

Absent a political epiphany:  you can take the lib out of a sewer, but you can't take the sewer out of the lib.

"One of the most leftist sewers in the nation."

From what I've heard and read,
it's literally turning into an open sewer.
