The most beautifully finished gun I have ever owned was a very early Astra 400.
It had a blued finish which actually was blue.

You want a collector item buy a good colt and standby to pay. If ponys cock your trigger buy colt snake guns. You want a shooter buy a plain Jane Rock Island and trick it out. Worst business decision by colt was stopping production on the snakes. Anaconda, python, diamond back, etc. I have a good friend with a stable full of ponys. The anacondas were a couple a grand a piece. Sweet but damn, just damn. The old CMP program sent another friend of mine a M1 garand by winchester. I want it to go with my Springfield. I wont print what he told me when I tried to buy it.
Star made some beautiful guns Like the Model B in WWII.
Parts are an issue, I broke a firing pin, but found one at Numerich for $9
An ergonomically wonderful pistol.
Just don’t dry fire it :)
From what I’ve seen, those prices are slightly below market value.
A firing pin aint rocket science to make.
Still, OEM is best for historical purposes.
1911’s I shot in the USN had slides that were so slopped out by 1980 that you could not hit a barn with them.
Buy it cheap and stack it deep when it hit’s the market LOW.
CMP is asking far to much for these.
And as much as folks poo poo the M1 carbine, even Uncle Sam realized it was a far better close quarters to 100 yards weapon than the 1911.
1911 is great in battle if you hit what you shoot, and do it up close.
I agree, especially if they are some of what we shot to qualify with in 1971. Those wore out ponys needed to go to the glue factory. You get what they send. Maybe if you could go through them for a choice. Theres just to much customizing that can b done. You can build a whole gun through brownells.
If I was gonna pay anywhere near $1000 for a pistol it would be the Sig P226 Navy and that’s just for the Anchor on the slide.
Bottom-grade US-marked 1911A1's go for at least a grand these days. If anything, they're charging below market value.
I love the 1911, but what we were issued was slop city LOL
Sigh. Agreed. I was ponying up to buy one. But at those prices, in a lottery?
I guess not.
If I had $1000 to spend on a gun it would be a full sized Glock in 10mm. A few spare mags and then check out the pawn shops etc. for a nice used Ruger Single Six.
For $1000 you can get into entry level STI lightly used.
Worn out old ponys are easier to disassemble and reassemble blindfolded LOL
True. That little horsey is a nice thing to have. Colt, Winchester, and Smith&Wesson had a$$holes that came in and bled them dry. Crying shame but opened up the market I guess.
Hickok45 cracking me up.
“ I never knew there were so many Navy Seals in the internets!” LOL

What a deal, so long as someone else is buying.
