Lucifers Cinderella story has ended after three seasons, with Fox deciding not to renew the Tom Ellis-starring series for a fourth.
A low-key midseason entry in 2016, Lucifer, from Warner Bros TV, exceeded expectations earning a second-season renewal, a Season 2 back order and an early Season 3 renewal all within nine months. Last season, Lucifer ran head-to-head in the ratings with its higher-profile, bigger-budget Monday lead-in Gotham, both averaging a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating in Live+Same Day and and 1.9 in L+7.
Both comic-based dramas are down this season, with Lucifer, now a Monday 8 PM anchor, averaging a 1.1 in Live+7. (Gotham is at a 1.2.)
Lucifer, based on the comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for Vertigo, starred Ellis, Lauren German, Rachael Harris, DB Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aimee Garcia, Tricia Helfer, Scarlett Estevez and Kevin Alejandro, who is already being pursued by other shows.
The story of the original fallen angel continued in Season 3, with the charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar (Ellis), helping LAPD detective Chloe Decker (German) take down criminals.
Lucifer was produced by WBTV in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television. The series is executive-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Joe Henderson, Ildy Modrovich, Sheri Elwood and KristieAnne Reed.
Ellis first shared the news on Twitter.
20 shows were cancelled today. It was the TV equivalent of Black Friday.
My favorite show. Loved the humor.
How a show glorifying Satan ever got the green light in the first place is a mystery.
After this week’s episode of “Timeless” I hope it got the axe.
Great show in many ways.
It is disappointing...I found the show quite entertaining.
Leave it to Beaver isn’t coming back, OK.
I agree. Was never a fan of the show, and honestly, just goes to show the depths of how low a network will go to get ratings.
I dont take it at all as a show glorifying Satan.
Its a very interesting take on the denizens of Biblical lore and to me explores the possibility of free will vs Gods design.
The overlying theme is Lucifers role was to rebel against God from his creation the way Jesus role was to be the Messiah. In many aspects Lucifer is severely bound by rules, moreso than you would truly expect and his power is truly constrained by God.
From a biblical sense the show is a farce as was the comic book. It is very entertaining though. I mean Lucifer gets bored in hell, says I quit and moves to LA. Im sorry, that right there is funny stuff alone that he picked LA for his hell on Earth.
I will miss it.
What is even funnier is that no one in L.A. notices anything different.
Yep, that still makes me laugh.
True, but eventually they decided to Baal out of this one.
I know one of the writers. He aint a lib, that’s for sure.
It’s the same way Freepers thought THE AMERICANS was about commie soviet agents in America. True. They dont see how the those 2 agents were season by season converting into real Americans.
I only watch 44 hours or so of broadcast TV a year.
Now I’ll be down to 22.
Sigh.
The husband is converting, but the wife still believes in the Soviet system, and she’s turned the daughter.
I miss Good Versus Evil from the early 2000s.
It had a lot of satire.
“Deals with the devil are bad, it’s our job to stop them” - Henry McNeil.
Am I the only one that thinks a show talking about how what a swell guy the devil really is is creepy/weird at best and dangerous at worst?
Have you actually watched it? :-)
True. You cant have both. Then it will be predictable.
