Looks like Isis and Petunia are doing doggie WWE. Mine do that too, lots of teeth and growling, but no blood.

“Police: Pit bull attacks Jehovah’s Witnesses at front door”

Normally, I’d be appalled, but in this case ...

Yep!

They muzzle spar constantly.

Petunia is about 7 months old and Isis is about 7 years, so she helps me raise Petunia and keeps her in line with the growl and the fang.

No one gets hurt though. They are hilarious to watch.

“Hi, I am from one of those many religious groups which believes it has the exclusive truth and a deal with God, now do you want to leave your group and join ours, because maybe we are right and you aren’t?”

“Sure, nobody in our group is that convinced we are right, we don’t even go door to door.”

“Great, welcome aboard. What is your group, by the way?”

“Hell’s Angels. Can I invite some of our other members to the next service?”

I saw what you did there. American Staffordshire Terrier, otherwise known as a pit bull. Years ago, Dr. James Hereford wrote about the breed, and how wonderful they were. But something has gone terribly wrong since then. I’m sure there are thousands of pit bulls who are loyal, well-behaved companions. But as you are the owner of one, I would like to ask you, why take the risk? There are hundreds of dog breeds that do not suddenly turn and attack people, unprovoked, breeds that are just as loyal, just as beautiful. I just don’t understand why anyone would get a dog that is overwhelmingly responsible for most of the mailings and deaths from dogs. I think they should be illegal, but I know there are very active pro-pit bull groups, which go around the country, legally challenging communities that outlaw them. I just don’t get it. I hope your dog never goes off and hurts or kills anyone. I really do. But I would not take that chance. Good luck.

My dog was a rescue puppy, represented as half Great Dane and half black Lab. Then he turned out to be what he is. By age 13 he’s been a great, loving, silly dog with tremendous drive and self-confidence who’s never shown any human aggression. My problem with trades people and delivery people is he wants to jump into their vehicles and drive off with them. He stays.

Remarkable. I’ve had the same experience. I adopted my Dame (who’s named Canute after the only Danish king of England) when Ulysses, my AST cross, was about five. Canute’s predecessor never wanted to play with Ulysses, while Canute wanted to from the day I got him. Then, the first time Canute gave Ulysses a bit more of puppy nip than Ulysses wanted, he let out a horrible snarl, turned Canute onto his back, and had Canute screaming for mercy. It happened a few more times with Ulysses scaring the Hell out of Canute, while always being careful never to draw a any blood. Pretty soon Canute got the idea and they became each other’s absolute best friends and play mates, Ulysses the alpha and Canute the beta. Now, with Ulysses 13 and Canute 8, Canute looks to Ulysses for direction, almost like Obola looking to ValJar, his controller.

Loyalty up, loyalty down. You don’t use labels to screw those who give you their all.

You’re one of the blessed ones; I’m glad for you. Most likely at his age, you won’t have trouble from him, then.

It has been my experience that it’s priceless to have an older dog to help guide a younger dog in the ways of being a proper dog.

Petunia has a ton of energy, but Isis really helps keep that in check.

petunia is at the age where she is now strong and fast enough to best Isis in an actual fight, but Isis is the absolute boss with her voice and her toothy grin.

Canute weighs 120 lb. and, at 8 years old, has all the youth and strength he needs to dominate Ulysses, who’s 13 and 90 lb. Doesn’t make any difference; Ulysses is still the boss without any intimidation. By canine standards, he was the perfect alpha dog. Looks like you are well on the way to the same kind of a great canine family. More power to you and yours.

I have found that telling them this does not deter them.

Had that experience - once.

The next time, I had two sweet young things, 18 or so, come up to my porch in Florida. I asked them if they were witnessing and they said yes - and started their pitch.

When they paused, I asked them if they ever heard of the planet Niburu. They said no, so I went into an accelerated version of Sitchin's "12th Planet".

Their eyes got wider with each passing moment, until one said "Sorry, we have to go now" and they high-tailed it back to their car. They didn't even leave a copy of "The Watchtower".

Thank you very much!

Petunia is hopefully going to be mated with a magnificent and very sweet 90 lbs black and tan Shepherd in October of 2019 (estimation). If so, I’ll be keeping one of those pups.

God bless you and your canine family too <3

I use to have a sign up that said “No Solicoters”. I would still get people stopping and saying “I’m not selling anything, I just wanted to....”

I typed out a note and attached it below the sign.

This includes people just offering information, political campaigns, donations, etc. If we don’t know you - do NOT ring the bell or knock.

I still had one guy knock and he was campaigning. “I bet you’re a Democrat - right!?” “Well yes I am and I’m running for ...” “Yeah - I could tell. Even with that note on there you STILL rang the bell. Ignoring the voice of the people. Again.”

One day I was outside and noticed a gal go up to the door to ring the bell and stop. Then left a pamphlet. I said hi as she walked away. “Oh - I didn’t mean to disturb you sir.” “No worries. And I bet you’re a Republican - aren’t you?” She was, and we had a short, pleasant conversation.”
