I liked Pocahontis - I mean, Avatar - strictly because I saw it in in IMAX 3D. But I only needed to see it once. BTW, I believe that when the humans got into orbit after being summarily marched into their space ships they then nuked the blues from space. :)
I recall someone on FR referring to Avatar as "Dancing with Smurfs."

I thought that was supposed to be Linda Hunt.
Kinda like Edith Head’s visage combined with Linda Hunt’s (short) stature.
I did not watch The Last Jedi, but I just got back from watching Solo. I missed some of that, but I miss a lot of the conversation at the movies.
That said, I have noticed the PC crap sneaking into Star Wars. I’ ve learned to ignore. I enjoyed it.
Yes, I’m a big Hitchcock fan. :D
I found the Force Awakens to be an rehash of a A New Hope and didn’t care for the villain’s performance. I don’t see why they couldn’t come up with something more original.
But I thought the Last Jedi was pretty good, can’t compare to the originals but much better then Force Awakens or the prequels in my opinion and Kylo Ren got a lot more interesting.
Rouge One was completely unnecessary, other than the awesome Vader scene. “Solo” is more interesting spinoff idea, when I eventually see it I’ll tell you what I think.
We always go for the entertainment factor - those who expect something “special” from a movie are wasting their time....we’ll probably go see it.
Rogue One opened at $155. It’s not a decline of 70%. It’s going to chart to nearly a billion in world wide, and that’s just box office. Add another billion for the toys. Then home market. Sorry, not a flop.
I was referring to the opening of the Last Jedi, which made $105 million its first day. $35 million is roughly a 70% decline.
Solo is down 50% from even Rogue One. That is absolutely unprecedented in modern movie history for such a hugh franchise to collapse so badly, so suddenly.

My guess is that Solo had better legs than Rogue One, and minimizes some of the losses, but the claim to which I was responding to — that Brietbart “lied” in calling its opening a bomb — is just plain stupid.
We already know from Rogue One the “stand alones” don’t make as much as the Episodes. Solo is NOT down 50% from Rogue One. It’s down less than 30, which is not an epic collapse, and frankly there’s nothing unprecedented about it. You guys are so addicted to insisting anything you don’t like is tanking you make crap up.
Breitbart did lie. And frankly so did you. Solo is not down 50% from Rogue One.
Yeah, about that... $11.4 million internationally isn’t exactly going to point to it making billions worldwide, and I’m guessing that it’s even less than what Rogue One and The Last Jedi made on their first days, otherwise they wouldn’t have noted it. Heck, China only had $10 million opening day for Solo, and considering The Last Jedi was a downright flop in China, it’s pretty clear that Solo’s going to do worse there (not to mention overall The Last Jedi did so poorly that JJ Abrams proceeded to imply that the audience was “fearful of women” as a reason for it flopping. It says a lot when the executive producer/director has to resort to cheap social justice remarks against the audience regarding a potential failure).
Don’t believe me? Read this:
Poe, get your head out of your cockpit.
There are things you can not solve...
By jumping into an X-wing and
blowing something up!
I need you to learn that.
I understand.
I’ve dealt with plenty of trigger happy
flyboys like you...
You are impulsive.
Dangerous.
And the last thing we need right now.
So stick to your post...
and follow my orders.
It was me.
I failed.
Because I was Luke Skywalker.
Jedi master.
So it is time...
that the Jedi are to end.
Time, it is.
For you to look at a pile of old books...
The sacred Jedi texts.
Oh, read them, have you?
- Well, I...
- Page turners, they were not.
Yes, yes, yes.
Wisdom they hail...
but that library contains nothing
that the girl Rey does...
not already possess.
You persist in your ignorance, don’t you?
Box Office Mojo: Solo, opening day: $35,631,000
Rogue One, opening day: $71,091,000
That’s about as precisely down 50% as you can get.
That’s Friday’s international. Total they’re at 65.
Opening Weekend Rogue One 155 Solo 114. NOT down 50%.
Still not a good opening. I’m pretty sure even The Last Jedi made much more on their international opening day than Solo did, especially in China, and that movie bombed in that country.
Not a great opening. But it will be profitable, which means it is not a flop.
