Profitability generally requires the domestic to at least meet production. That’s why Guardians was a flop. They don’t get as high a percentage from international, and it’s harder to get the money. Dreamworks took a write down of $83 million on it, of course Hollywood accounting so who knows for sure. But they were at least officially willing to declare it a flop in the books.

Of course with Star Wars you’ve got all the other revenue. 2 in 5 months probably really hurt it more than anything else. Especially when you factor in home market which hit for Last Jedi 2 months ago. It’s just too much for any franchise.

Yeah, and in terms of at least the Chinese market, The Last Jedi was a flop (and China’s pretty much Hollywood’s go-to market, far more than even the domestic market), and from the track record, it looks like Solo’s probably going to do even WORSE there than The Last Jedi did.
