Interesting story.

There has long, been a discrepancy between what physicists say should be in the universe, and what has actually been observed.

A big discrepancy.

Turns out, scientists may have just found it.

That does make sense by definition.
If you find something, why would you keep looking?...

I’m guessing that all those missing socks are still “somewhere” - and probably account for most of the mass. With miss-matched Tupperware lids/bowls making up the rest.

Any missing socks with it?

There was never any missing matter. We still don’t “understand” where it all is distributed. A physicist friend of mine in NM told me about it in the early 1980’s.

They may be closer to understanding it, but pop culture science did not discover anything.

For a long time far too much of “science” is focused on the next research funding grant and has become more political than it should be. I became aware of that from some of my Navy MARS friends in Albuquerque told me about the NSF VLA site in Datil NM. I met one of the Engineers and got the tour of the main building when they had the 1st 3 dishes operational. Very interesting. At the time they were using super cooling (liquid nitrogen) to get the noise figure down low enough. Later they were able to get that noise figure without cooling with Gallium Arsenide FET’s. (”Gas Fet’s”)

Here is what I think is the source of all the hype. It is the same as Moonman62 posted.

Short-hand version: when you put socks in the washing machine, one of them turns into highly-ionized oxygen.

Was it in Rosie O’Donnell’s fridge?

Not really. There’s so little gas for the volume that it occupies that you’d still freeze out there. Temperature as used by astronomers is more accurately used as a measure of energy. So really, it’s a tiny amount of gas spread across thousands of miles that vibrates really really fast.

So... can we now stop talking about “dark matter” ?

When I link to the MSN page I get the headline, but nowhere do I get any text or a video for the subject.

Maybe my Ghosterly tracking blocker Firefox add on is blocking something.

This is so silly, it is not even wrong. The dark matter is known to be clustered around galaxies, not spread out between them.

Clearly it was invented by white racist scientists--now that we are enlightened and diverse we can discard it. ;-)

they’ve found hell. It’s between the galaxies.

Hunh, I always figured it was in D.C.

Anyway, the unexplained stuff should be called
Sock energy, it comes from the place that lost
Socks go to in the dryer.
