the University of Cambridge, found that the 'plink, plink' sound produced by a water droplet hitting a liquid surface is caused not by the droplet itself, but by the oscillation of a small bubble of air trapped beneath the water's surface. The bubble forces the water surface itself to vibrate, acting like a piston to drive the airborne sound. ..."But thanks to modern video and audio technology, we can finally find out exactly where the sound is coming from, which may help us to stop it."

Call a plumber.
If I was any dumber, I could have been a plumber! (Apologies to my plumber S I L)
“What causes the sound of a dripping tapand how do you stop it?”
It makes an excellent means of torture. Democrats would object though.
Most faucets have cartridges that are fairly easy to replace. Your faucet cartridges is leaking.
That's ONE way to fix a leaky faucet :-)
Fischer is the worst...there Chinese cartridges change all the time so you may not be able to find a replacement.
Glacier Bay too. Cheap stuff.
Uh, you replace the washer.
It takes a government grant and years of study followed by another government grand and more years of study.
I must be a simpleton. Thinking the sound was from the drop hitting the bottom of the sink, or something in the sink, was sufficient for me.
I wonder how much grant money Cambridge sucked up to figure that out?
GMTA
Uh, unless its washerless like 90% of modern fixtures.
Earplugs
If you need to stop the sound of a drip from driving you crazy but you can’t get it fixed right away, letting it drop into a Chore Boy scouring pad will silence it.
Self-sufficient men fix it by replacing the cartridge or washer. Liberals fix it by calling a plumber.
Did ANYONE read the article?
Ahhhh...the topic I’ve waited years for - since 1998 - on Free Republic...the mystery of the dripping faucet.
Now I’m considered “edumacated”....;^D
Call your congressman. Chew his ass. It won’t fix it along with anything else they do but atleast you can berate an idiot.
The scientists were not trying to fix a faucet. They were simply trying to find the mechanism that results in the sound of dripping water.
And they found it. Is that useful information? Probably not but you never know. That just how science works. The scientists discover a phenomenon and the engineers find a way to use it to build useful gadgets.
So enough of the snarky one liners that I personally just skip over. Way too much of that on FR these Days.
Did ANYONE read the article?
Shirley you jest.
