I often picture myself taking a swing at a golf ball from far away from the hole. When I make contact with the ball, there is a satisfying "thwack" sound and the ball shoots into the air on a perfect arc towards the far-away hole.

The little white dimpled ball then takes a bounce about 100 feet in front of the hole, takes a few more bounces and then rolls perfectly into the hole.

A hole-in-one.

Tiger played his best golf in many years.

The Tiger hate is misplaced. It’s not Tiger that forces ESPN and other Sports networks to focus on Tiger.

It’s the PC sports media, alone, at fault.

And the PGA itself, to a large degree. They are blowing a opportunity to showcase a large number of elite young American golfers. Golf has killed its own ratings by focusing on Tiger to the exclusion of 6-10 excellent and mostly young Americans who should be the focus of headlines and ESPN exposes.

The Young Americans = could be huge ratings and money for all. But the PC force is strong.

This has to be one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever seen in all my time on the Free Republic. I can find a dozen videos of golfers, pre-Tiger, celebrating great shots in all sorts of non-dignified ways (based on your standards). You expect them to walk around like a bunch of stoics?

I disagree. The guy has won 14 majors, and deserves to be followed. If it was 30 years ago, and Jack Nicklaus was only a couple of shots back in the last round of a major, they’d be following his every shot.

Didn’t you get the memo? If you in any way try to make the case that Tiger was possibly the best of all time, you’re instantly a leftist. Because you know, he’s black.

yeah, because golfers NEVER cheat on their wives. (by the way, thats sarcasm. Do some research. The “honorable men”, at least some of them, are chasing poontang on a regular basis.)

I’m not naive enough to assume that all golfers are honorable men. (The #1 golfer in the world, Dustin Johnson tested positive for cocaine and has yet to marry the mother of his children). My point is that he moved the needle in the world of golf, and had a responsibility to young people who idolized him, not to sully his reputation or legacy by chasing strange. There are some gentlemen on tour, but Eldrick is not one of them.

Whatever. If you follow golf and attend tournaments like I have for decades, you’d see the difference, even if you weren’t willing to admit it. Whatever you may see on Youtube of Watson et al it was unique, non routine, not like you see with Woods. Similar to a defender who celebrates every sack or tackle.

Not to mention the Pied Piper leading hundreds of “fans” down the fairway as I witnessed after a tee shot at a tournament. Golf rules don’t permit fans outside the ropes, let alone trampling on the fairways. Unbelievable display of non-etiquette, nothing like you see from Jordan Spieth’s admirers; Spieth off to a similar track at a comparable age.

But hey, thanks for the kind words. If you wish to reply, fine, but I’m done reading your insults.

So let me get this straight. If you think fans are “walking down the fairway” in the middle of a tournament, you don’t know much about golf. They don’t. Unless its the final hole on the last day. And even if they did, is that Tiger Woods’ fault?

Oh, and as to the “Pied Piper leaging hundreds of “fans””, have you never heard of Arnie’s Army in the 60’s?

C’mon... we know why you don’t like TW.

Molinari choked today and gifted wrapped the Masters to Woods. Now it’s Tiger, Tiger, Tiger non-stop until he goes on another losing streak. Players want to get some attention? Keep your composure and don’t self destruct like McElroy and Spieth seems to do every time play a major. Koepka could have very easily won today. He fears no one and that includes Woods.

You sound almost bitter. They guy won FOURTEEN majors, imploded in every way possible both physically and personally, and then came back and won the Masters FOURTEEN YEARS after the last time he won it. And eleven years after his last major. And you’re bitching about a losing streak? Yeah, this is a big story, and it should be. Try to look at the bright side of life.
