Cowboys have lowest Week One local rating in nine years (NFL)
NBC Sports ^ | 9/13/2018 | Mike Florio

America’s Team may still be America’s Team, but America’s Team isn’t drawing the same kind of eyeballs in their home market.

Via Barry Horn, formerly of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys generated a Week One rating of 28.2 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for their road game at Carolina. That’s the lowest number since the Cowboys produced a 25.2 in 2009.

He is not that far off.

In the 90’s I could get on a charter bus, go 50 mi to a Cowboys playoff game and watch them WIN.

Now I have to drive and Jerry wants $75 for me to park, he wants the taxpayer to pay for the stadium... And they can’t get a win going with gasoline and hand grenades.

Jerry has destroyed the Cowboys.

Now he is gambling on gambling at Windstar casino in Oklahoma.

I don’t like his odds.

I never did care for football (or basketball), so I have often been the odd man out at social gatherings. This last year has been great... FAR fewer football discussions (NFL, that is... they still talk college football), and when discussions do happen, there is inevitably someone who has given up the NFL habit.

The NFL has truly peed in everyones' Wheaties, including their own.

For that much parking fee, it would pay for somebody to offer off-site parking and a shuttle bus to the stadium. Why isn't there bus service any more?

he ratings don't come from anybody admitting anything. Nielson has boxes connected to TVs which show what channel is on.

I know that. It was a joke. Sigh...

You are both being idiots, the precipitous fall off in attendance that happen in ONE YEAR - 2016 - and continues to go on with this season was a direct result of the disrespect shown by the NFL and its players. To spin it any other way is plain stupid.

No one is arguing that going to a game is ridiculously expensive. But it has been that way for ever.

In previous decades black players who may have suffered from poorly funded schools and white players from humble backgrounds all had at least a consistent understanding of constitutional principles and appreciation for freedom, not least because WWII and Vietnam were fresh in their minds.

Most of them could express a thought clearly, write coherently when necessary and behave in a dignified manner.

Oh, and then there’s the small matter of strong fathers being present in most households.

Doing the math, 1,700 roster spots x 70% players who are black x 72% black births out of wedlock = 857 players league wide who, by the actuarial tables, were born and/or raised without fathers.

Are most of them good, law abiding people? Yes. Do many of them focus on family and marriage because they lacked them growing up? Yes again.

But even the good eggs have been steeped in victimology and the worst sort of pernicious propaganda posing as education. Many schools openly declare their curriculum to be afrocentric, whatever the hell that means.

The end result is a group of individuals who have been kept in the dark regarding history and empirical science including societal maladies. They have been socialized to turn a blind eye to crime and drug trafficking/use. They have been encouraged to distrust or even hate police without cause and to perpetuate this mindset via various means especially via hip hop music. Their status as elite athletes has added an additional layer of isolation. In sum, they haven’t a clue about the wider world.

This is why the so-called peaceful protest is as pitiful as it is pointless. These ‘woke’ players can’t carry on a five minute conversation to speak in an informed, intelligent manner about an issue they claim is worth besmirching our national symbol and anthem and worth endangering their own and their teammates’ future earnings.

What statistics are you looking at?

There was a decline - but you’d be hard pressed to call it “precipitous” - more like “nearly imperceptible”

The NFL is getting hammered after another game was played in a half-empty stadium

Find a story like this that was posted BEFORE 2016 (and the kneeling crap started). Please do some research for us and post the story(ies) showing attendance was falling before Kaepernick.

But the people were paying and going at those ridiculous rates BEFORE Kaepernick. Then they stopped and realized they were paying to be disrespected....

I used to be able to see the Indians in playoffs for $14, parking was $5 you could bring in a cooler, with your own food and beer, but you always bought some stadium dogs just for that mustard..

911 happened and “No more coolers” :(

I am glad I got to share America with my son before it all turned to ****!
