Amazon's review algorithm has been flagging reviewers who leave a review of books by conservative authors Jon Del Arroz and Vox Day. It then tells them that they're unacceptably biased, removing ALL reviews they've posted and banning them from putting up any new reviews.
This has happened to a number of fans and reviewers of their books.
Recently?
You really think they're giving up profits to limit the sales of Joseph Farah's books?
Don't you think the issue might be more related to WND Books' printing and distribution systems?
Hmm...
Maybe in the last six months or so.
There do seem to be a few people commenting here who are not very familiar with the Amazon rating/review process. The first response received after leaving a review is a notice that it will be posted after it is approved. And they do allow reviews of items and content purchased at places other than Amazon.
Anyone who takes the overall numbers seriously on politically charged content is silly in the first place. It doesn’t take that long to look through individual reviews to get a feel for what people who have actually read the book thought about it.
It does not surprise me but is worrisome if Amazon is censoring thoughtful legitimate reviews on political books and content. It actually took some effort to get my “free” Washington Post subscription completely cancelled and stop getting their content “pushed” on to my devices. There is no question that Bezos has a very biased view of how crony capitalism should benefit him and his company.
I was blocked for about six months for leaving any feedback at Amazon. They still won’t tell me why. I have no affiliation with them.
Amazon is sounding like the plague to be avoided for a quality book.
A true quality book will market itself. But distributing through Amazon, really has become as big a negative, as a NY Times review, certainly for quality books.
You can release a lower quality book through Amazon/NY Times, and then save the best for elsewhere. :-)
UNFALSIFIABLE
All censored media is UNFalsifiable.
All censored media has NO opposing views.
Unfalsifiable with No opposing views are: Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, Google, the MSM & Public School.
Teach your children that point when they peruse, as they browse those unreliable sources.
Basically, I tell friends I will not debate their Twitter/Google stories as I do not squander my valuable time. It is more valuable to invest, at least, in competing authors or websites.
Amazon censorship is slow, painful suicide. Bezos should just publish his personal views so that his readers can conform in communal agreement.
The list is here and is searchable. moz-extension://0ca3ec87-fd60-476c-8491-f785bc63deec/asset-viewer.html?url=malware-1
Just checked my account. I am not able to post reviews and all of my past reviews have been deleted.
I don’t think I have ever reviewed anything of a political nature, but my wish list is full of books like the Federalist Papers and The Road to Serfdom, so maybe the algorithm takes into account you purchase history or the content of your wish list.
I looked at Comey’s book reviews on Amazon yesterday. The reviews are close to 100% 5 star and 4 star with the big majority being 5 star. It’s just ludicrous that his piece of fluff would garner that level of gushing reviews.
I miss the old fun of the hilariously snarky “reviews” by people who obviously never read the book.
"Your previous review of this product did not comply with our Customer Reviews Guidelines. Amazon does not permit reviews from customers whose relationship to the product or seller may be perceived as biased."
Interesting, I get no such notice when visiting Arroz’s blog.
This comes from Ublock Origin, an ad blocker which also has some safety features
So they are stopping negative reviews of liberals books and good reviews of conservative ones?
Yes I agree, but so are media companies like Netflix. The entire market seems to over value.
I would love DJY to get a hold of this fact and put Amazon on notice. “Stop throttling conservative books or will increase your postage costs.”
Because those in the know...
Say it’s time to go
There is a lot going on behind the scenes at Amazon that I have experienced and spoken with them about. Not that I wanted to but things just came together
Bezos has outkicked his coverage, and it may coming back to bite him
Amazon has been clamping down on reviews to only those who have bought the book as they were getting heat about having a lot of “reviews” up for a product that were not from actual users/purchasers. I personally applaud them for doing so, if they are moving to squelch certain authors or subjects then they are shooting themselves in the foot with both hands, but they do have the capital to do stupid things
Silly Farrah. Doesn’t he know that Thou Shalt Not criticize abortion, promiscuity or the LGBTQWERTY??? It is the Umpteenth Commandment.
