Just an FYI-Lily James is a really big Lefty. She may be pretty, but she has a dark heart.

I am not sure if I have ever seen the original and know for certain that I have not seen the remake. I just find it difficult to separate current “stars” from their politics which causes me to shun most everything that comes out of Hollywood.

Thank for the info, though, if I get the chance I will give it a try.

Actually it was the third version. The first remake was made in 1936 had a lighter tone and a different title, Satan Met a Lady.

I hope not, hard core lesbian sex would be revolting. However, an imagined, or real, lesbian relationship between Mrs. Danvers and Rebecca would really explain Mrs. Danvers much better. When I read the book and when I saw the movie, I felt that Mrs. Danvers motivation was not very believable. However, if the Danvers character was an aging and plain spinster with an unnatural attachment to Rebecca it would explain a lot; and possible a weird romantic attachment to Mr. de Winter as well, something very twisted and confused, making MISS Danvers both more terrifying and more sympathetic. I think the writers and actors should do their best to make villains and villainesses appear to be both. While the audience are horrified by the villain, they also feel pity, and in an odd sort of way, are rooting for them to succeed all the while sitting on the edge of the seat afraid they might succeed at the awful thing they have set out to do.

This is proof that those in Hollywood are clueless drug addicts and alcoholics.

Hmmm. Yeah, remake "Rebecca". Let's see if we can improve on this cast:

to name just a few of that great crew. Everyone in that cast is truly stellar. Today's crop of actors wouldn't even make it as an extra under real directors and producers. And where is Hollywood going to find another Alfred Hitchcock to direct? Ha!

I agree with you 100% which is why I almost exclusively watch old movies...haven’t been to a theater movie since 1981.

Seriously, I’ll bet you would love the remake of Sabrina...my wife’s favorite movie of all time.

The movie is GREAT! Very long. I’ve seen it probably 4 times. I haven’t read the book but great idea to do. I’ll make you a deal, you watch the movie and I’ll read the book! ;)

if you want to see her in a nice film, watch the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie society.

Hollywood could ruin Rebecca, but Lilly is an actress who lights up the screen in her roles.

She also played Natasha in the BBC War and Peace.

Sounds like a good plan! LOL. Maybe it's time to finally give the movie a chance. Thanks for the suggestion!

If you loved the book “Jane Eyre,” you might love the book “Rebecca,” too. Enjoy!

Books by Daphne du Maurier that were made into movies.

Jamaica Inn 1936

Rebecca 1938

Frenchman's Creek 1941

My Cousin Rachel 1951

The Apple Tree, Includes the novelette 'The Birds' 1952

I've read most of du Maurier's early books. Including these five and the movies made from them.

Rebecca
Jamaica Inn
My Cousin Rachel

Those sit on our bookshelves, too.

Also du Maurier’s book of short stories: “Don’t Look Now”

Favorite author.
