Lily James is to play the lead role in a film remake of Daphne du Maurier’s classic gothic novel Rebecca.

Alfred Hitchcock’s cult 1940 adaptation of the psychological thriller, starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine, won an Oscar for best picture.

Hollywood actor Armie Hammer will take Olivier’s role as de Winter, who along with his creepy housekeeper Mrs Danvers still appears obsessed with his eponymous late wife Rebecca.

Another classic being destroyed. I am so glad I avoid all things that come from Hollywood.

There’s giving it a chance! :)

The best Titanic ever made was made a ways after the originals.

The best story about Tombstone and the OK gunfight was made after many, many old, bad ones.

The best Mutiny on the Bounty was made long after the Charles Laughton one, which was so LAZILY made that it had him taking a ship to sea to look for Spencer Christian, which NEVER HAPPENED.

Another remake flop I’m relatively sure.

The book is a family favorite here, handed down through three generations.

Never saw the movie. Read the book!

Maybe so... But still shows their creative bankruptcy. Nothing new from those hacks.

I sort of agree, although the original movie in this case is excellent. This has potential though. It could also be a disaster.

The only remake I have seen that was worth anything was THE MALTESE FALCON, filmed in 1931, remade in 1941.

Sam Spade went from a smooth suave and sophisticated, bedding the ladies gentleman, to a wore down rough as nails private detective.

Well, at least now they can include some hard-core lesbian sex.

I would probably agree that there have been many remakes which are superb but for me there are some movies that I just can’t imagine anyone other than the original cast playing the parts.

I could never imagine Gone With the Wind with anyone other than Clark Gable for instance. Or the Ten Commandments with any other actors but Yul Brynner and Charlton Heston. This is what happens when one gets old and set in their ways...:-)

I really liked her in The Darkest Hour and Baby Driver. A true English beauty...

That embroidery looks like it was inspired by a bowl of puffed rice or a bacteria-laden petri dish....

Well, I suppose the other was the best either one of them could do.

With over 3000 movies in my own personal library and having seen thousands of movies filmed between the mid 1930’s through the the late 1960’s there is only one remake that I really think is superior and that is the remake of Sabrina.

The original with Bogart and Audrey Hepburn doesn’t hold a candle to the remake with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormand. And I say that as a huge fan of the former two stars...JMO.
