True (except for the spelling of Neanderthals), but, on the other hand, most humans of that era were also more than a bit shorter than average humans today. And despite shorter lower legs, they are generally believed to be broad chested and heavily muscled - relative giants of their era.

Old Testament writers never saw any Neandertals. The notion of the cyclops, one eyed giants, arose in Greece from fossil forms of mammoths. Belief that giants (and dragons) once walked the Earth likely stem from such finds. Two appear in the OT, Og of Bashan, and Goliath, and also don’t fit the description of a Neandertal.
