$840M in gold bars prepared for loading onto Russian jet at Venezuelan airport: report
About 20 tons of gold from Venezuela’s central bank was ready to be hauled away Tuesday on a Russian airline’s Boeing 777 that landed in Caracas a day earlier, a Venezuelan lawmaker wrote on Twitter.
The destination of the $840 million in gold bars was unknown, but a source told Bloomberg News that it represented about 20 percent of the country’s holding of the metal. The gold was set aside for loading, the report said.

WASHINGTON — A new number of Senate Democrats appear to be supporting the idea of physical barriers on the southern border.
Following the Senate votes that blocked President Donald Trump’s plan to fund the border and Senate Democrats’ plan to re-open the government, West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin told The Daily Caller Thursday that Senate Democrats want some sort of structure on the border, and House Democrats are the holdouts on the issue. “On the Senate side, we understand. I don’t think any Senators … said they don’t want any secured structure fence or wall or whatever you want to call it,” he said.
Manchin is not alone. Other Democrats have expressed support for a border wall in the past month.
“I know we’re going to have to add additional border security … We’ve got about 700 miles of existing fencing. Where folks say we need additional barrier protections, I’m all for it,” Sen. Mark Warner told Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto on Wednesday.
Maine Democratic Sen. Angus King appeared on CNN’s “New Day” on January 7 and said, “Everybody is for border security. The question is, let’s do it in a rational, economic, sensible way. There are places where a wall makes sense.”
Acting Secretary Of Defense Shanahan Says : ‘Several Thousand’ More Troops Will Be Sent To The Southern Border
Speaking with reporters during an off-camera press gaggle at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan said there will be an increase of active-duty service members along the U.S-Mexico border.
The news comes as Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has been vocally opposed to the border deployment. Shanahan said he has had multiple conversations with the congressman about the topic.
“Our activity to date has really been, you know, logistics, medical. Some, I’d call it construction, but the laying — the installation of the concertina wire,” Shanahan explained, according to the DOD transcript. “Then there’s what I would consider, you know, more of a traditional capability of monitoring, surveilling and detecting. So this is the enhanced capability that we provide to DHS.”
Shanahan pointed out how the increase and the extension of the deployment has been at the request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“Most recently, DHS has asked us to support them in additional concertina wire, and then expanded surveillance capability. And we’ve responded with, you know, ‘Here’s how many people it would take’, and this is the timing we’d be able — timing and mix of the people to support that,” he said.
When asked how many more troops will be deployed, Shanahan did not give an exact number: “Several thousand. I’ll leave it at that number.”
After the briefing, DOD spokesman Lt. Col. Jamie Davis released a statement providing more detail on the deployment.
“As the Acting Secretary said, we are supporting our federal partners on the border and that mission has been extended until September,” Davis said. “We are currently sourcing the units involved and there will be an increase of a few thousand troops. We will provide more clarity on the numbers when we have it.”
The active-duty members of the military were first sent to the border last October in response to the multiple, large caravans, which originated in Central America, that made their way towards the United States.

A Belarusian model, who said she had proof that President Trump’s campaign colluded with the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential election, has now backtracked and says she made up the claims.
Anastasia Vashukevich, who spent months in a Thai jail last year for organizing sex training seminars, grabbed headlines after saying she has evidence that Russia worked with Trump’s campaign.
She asked the U.S. government to secure her freedom from the Thai lockup and grant her political asylum in exchange for recordings in which she said Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska is heard talking about interfering in the U.S. presidential elections. She reportedly worked as an escort, with Deripaska being one of her clients.
Following her deportation from Thailand earlier this month, she was detained in Russia on prostitution charges. She was later released after an investigator decided to free her without an “obligation to appear” for further proceedings.
But the model now claims her story was just an effort to attract media attention and save her life while she was detained in Thailand.
“I think it saved my life, how can I regret it? If journalists had not come at that time and that story had not come to the newspapers, maybe I would die [be dead by] now,” she told CNN.

Trump may be prepositioning troops for an active incursion into Mexico to take out all cartels in a coordinated special operations move. These troops are in blocking position when deployed. The underpinning proclamation will include a statement of fact, that the people from Mexico living in the United States have relatives living in constant fear for their own personal safety, and once the danger from the cartels and corrupt federalies is contained, those living illegally in the United States will return with US Assistance to rebuild their country and their lives in Mexico.
Oh, and for anyone who is in need of a “reading for comprehension” class, understand it is a Subway sandwich shop. There is no subway in downtown Chicago, only the L.
