Frozen cat revived after being found in Montana snow bank
ABC News ^ | Feb 7, 2019 | MARK OSBORNE DARREN REYNOLDS

A very lucky cat in Montana is happy and healthy after thawing out -- literally -- at an animal clinic over the past week following a miraculous rescue.

The owners of Fluffy, who live in Kalispell, Montana, in the far northwest of the state, found her in a snow bank on Jan. 31 -- unresponsive, with her fur matted with ice. The low in nearby Whitefish was a bone-chilling 8 degrees on Jan. 31, and they had received about 16 inches of snow for the month.

I spent a winter in Boston back in the 70s and come spring thaw as the drifts started subsiding and uncovered the dead animals that we’re left out or strayed and had froze to death as a result of the dreadful weather.

To this day when my dog wants to go outside at 2:30 in the morning I get up I take her outside and I stay outside with her until she’s ready to come back in. I do that mostly because she’s kind of small and I don’t want to have a predator take her out because I’m not around to give the predator pause. But lots of people throw their dog out where the cat man go back to bed and that dog or that cat might be out for 6 hours and if it’s really freezing outside there’s a good chance that they could expire from hypothermia just like we do.

“Found in Montana Snow Bank”

They have banks for snow in Montana?

Well I’ll be.

Do you bring in a bag of snow and then they give you a snow deposit slip and they put it in a snow vault?

Not too many summer snow deposits I’m guessing.

Do they have snow loans?

“Hi. I’d like to borrow some snow.”

“What are you going to use this snow for?”

“Oh, I don’t know. I just want to have some snow around. You know, some “Mad Snow” to just fling around.”

“I’m sorry, but that seems to be a frivolous use of snow.”

“Well, what do all the serious snow borrowers do with it?”

“They make forts and snowmen and snow angels.”

“OK. I want to borrow some snow to make a snowman.”

“What’re you? Some kind of snow sexist? We’re all about snow rights here. You can’t make a snow woman?”

“I don’t know. Maybe I’d better go to the Snow Credit Union instead. I hear they’re giving away free toasters anyway.”

Lacking a clothes dryer I tried to quick dry my son’s underwear in a microwave once. The elastic waist band turned to toast.

We live in Balcones Wildlife Preserve, NW of Austin Texas. We have coyote, hawks, wild boars, and now on the local news — mountain lions. We have killed many poisonous snakes, most recently a coral snake.

Our cats are indoor cats unless we are outside with them and they stay in the fenced in backyard.

NO! My cats are fur babies. They love to cuddle and sleep on my lap. I have never told them they are cats. They think they will grow up to be human moms like me. They follow me and study everything I do, they think they need to learn all this. Yesterday we put a metal birdbath together, and Jezabelle watched us the whole time.

Sounds just like our cats. I was attacked and bitten by a dog when I was five, I was minding my own business, walking into our grocery store that we owned. It just jumped up and bit me. The owners wouldn’t let the dog be tested, so I had to wait to see if I had to take rabies shots or not. Blurry memories except for when the dog, unprovoked, jumped up and bit a chunk out of my leg.

We were walking into Austin REI and a woman was sitting there in the entry room with her dog. It jumped up and bit our 34 year old huge body builder son. No one provoked that stupid dog. It tore his jeans and his sock. We SHOULD have reported it but we were in shock.

I HATE DOGS

I HATE DOGS

It's well known that men LOVE Maine Coon cats. Mine is faithful like a dog. I've seen Maines walk on leashes, too. Gotta love those 2 1/2" wide paws. I'm sure a male Coon would have even bigger paws than my girl.

He was 10 months old in this pic.

He is HUGE now!
