Autopsy finds broken bones in Epstein's neck, deepening questions around his death

An autopsy found that financier Jeffrey Epstein sustained multiple breaks in his neck bones, according to two people familiar with the findings, deepening the mystery about the circumstances around his death.

Among the bones broken in Epstein's neck was the hyoid bone, which in men is near the Adam's apple. Such breaks can occur in those who hang themselves, particularly if they are older, according to forensics experts and studies on the subject. But they are more common in victims of homicide by strangulation, the experts said.

Even latest Rasmussen poll 42 percent say murdered and 29 percent suicide. Rest undecided.

“multiple breaks of neck bones” sounds like a lot more than the hyoid.

It was reported Epstein was on his knees...short drop hanging, not enough impact to sustain multiple breaks in his neck bones. I would think.

Yea - there were a few Deep Staters who again called us ‘conspiracy nuts’ for saying he death wasn’t a suicide.

But they won’t give up...they never do.

How long until the 2 unnamed guards commit suicide?

Maybe the guards strangled Epstein in their sleep.

Too bad Epstein didn’t once caddy for the Dalai Lama and got stiffed on the tip. Cause he would have had that going for him on his deathbed.

The very first report I read about a possible cause of death said he used toilet paper. Today I read that there is a report that Epstein kept asking for more and more toilet paper. I don’t know the source of either report, but the articles suggested in both cases that these were off the record reports from insiders via others. It does seem possible that a strong enough lanyard/noose could be created from enough overlapping layers of toilet paper, either using a twisting of overlapping layers or not. The thick paper rope would hold, it seems to me. Either Epstein would have stashed the paper lanyard under the bed ahead of time, or more likely, given hours when he was unguarded and without a cellmate, created it on the spot in the long time he was not being checked, having planned the method ahead and gotten in his possession a load of toilet paper rolls. Perhaps he had paper towels, rather than towels to dry his hands, etc. Those, rolled and twisted, could add to the sturdiness of such an invention. Whether the thick cushy variety or the thin kind, a huge number of long layers of untorn paper sheets, one multisheet layer overlapping half way up in staggered fashion, one layer on top of the other and twisted again and again along the length of a growing hard paper cone, could probably work long enough to do the deed. Maybe some plastic wrap was also stashed from a meal to provide strength. No, I never would have thought of anything of the sort before, nor have I tried this at home.... This is one weird case. If toilet paper and/or paper towels and/or some kind of paper or plastic wrap provided the means of a murder weapon, authorities know they would be an historic laughing stock. One does wonder why toilet paper was the very first rumor. One does wonder why five days later, there is a claim that he had requested, and presumably received, more and more toilet paper. If you think this possibility is totally far-fetched, I won’t be insulted.

‘Multiple breaks to the bones’ is a rather flexible definition. It might be a result of a single traumatic impact or not. It doesn’t outright exclude the possibility of self-hanging. Not enough information at this point. It would be nice to read an autopsy protocol and to take a look at the crime scene before any conclusions.

"I think amateur hangings can end up being strangulations."

I did some checking, and although fracture of the hyoid bone is found mostly in manual strangulation, it can occur from hanging, especially in older individuals, because by the age of 40, the bone is ossified, and therefore more prone to breaking.

A study from 2014:

In Strangulation Deaths: Forensic Significance of Hyoid Bone Fracture

Let’t say hyoid broken is a reliable sign of manual strangulation. It still rarely occurs with self-hanging but generally a reason to look for a foul play.

Hyoid is notvm easily fractured.

Exactly. A hanging similation as an easy murder cover up is a myth. A lot of things to do right and every minor detail would screw it up. Generally requires awfully incompetent or cooperating detectives and coroner to go unnoticed.
General sign of no foul self-hanging is an oblique trace of a rope on the neck ascending towards the knot of that was used for a rope and the trace disappearing near the knot itself. Any deviation from this is a reason to research further.

“They said sheet. But never confirmed paper sheet.”

Had they said “sheetS,” then that first report of “toilet paper” or other sheeted paper rolls” would not be excluded. Why would would rumor of toilet paper have been claimed by anonymous source(s)? A joke? Yes, I read a couple of days ago that the sheets for the suicide watch prisoners are/should be of paper.
