If a President is impeached, can he still run for office?

Posted on 09/24/2019 7:37:36 PM PDT by Jonty30

I'm just wondering what happens after Trump is impeached by the Democrats. Can he still run for his second term?

Impeachment will lead to almost as big a landslide as Reagan and Nixon.
40 states minimum.

Ever heard of a guy named Bill Clinton? He was Impeached and served two terms.

No president has ever been Convicted in an impeachment. The process is, the House can recommend it. But, it requires 2/3rds of the Senate to Convict.

This has never happened. It will not happen in this case.

Additionally, there is no Impeachment process in play here. The Speaker of the House does not have the authority to actually initiate such.

It requires a vote in the house and 51% of the House has to vote for such.

No Vote has been taken. Pelosi’s announcement is nothing more than Kabuki Theater to appease the Squad and the Lunatic Base.

I could not show you one Republican who would not fold. Much less 34. If it goes to the Senate, I am not optimistic about the outcome. I know Republicans.

“Show me 34 Republicans who won’t fold.”

There will be no vote. McConnell doesn’t have to do anything. He will not hold impeachment trials a few months before the election.

Heard today that Romney, Lee, Sasse and Collins and told Schumer privately they would provide bi-partisan cover in an impeachment trial it trial is before Christmas break. Have to wonder where Murkowski was hiding.

They (the ‘rats) are coming off as mean, petty, manipulative, and just plain stupid. There is no way for them to look good doing this. They are all but handing President Trump his second term on a silver platter.

There a greater chance of

1) The coming ice age destroying Earth
2) Global Warming destroying Earth
3) Mayor Pete repenting of being a homosexual
4) Manchurian Candidate Barack Hussein Obama admitting all of his hidden crimes, hidden agendas and outright crimes against the U.S.A.

than President Trump being officially impeached (with the Senate).

The Democrats are just digging their own political graves for 2020. They already know 2020 is a lost cause.

The House votes for impeachment and sends it over to the Senate for an impeachment trial. If he’s acquitted in the Senate, there is no impeachment.

There will have been an impeachment vote, a vote for impeachment but no actual impeachment meaning no removal from office and no curtailment of rights to run again.

The House indicts, the Senate holds the trial.

What does it take to be impeached in the Senate?

67 Senators voting he’s guilty

Not going to happen.

Some say ChiComs will offer a gazillion dollars to Senators for an impeachment guilty verdict.

Problem is Senators need to report where contributions come from. Senatorial PACS must do the same.

Not going to happen.

The Pelosi-Nadler Impeachment ‘inquiry’ is a ploy to run out the clock from putting Democrats and their Republican stooges in jail or on the street.

They think their corporate media will run interference for them and all will be fine. Their Tech Punks with their algorithms will jam internet search engines and social media with messages that Trump is a criminal, a Nazi, Hitler, biggest threat to democracy in all human history, rapist, corrupt Russian agent, ...

Biden I the Stupid was telling the cameras “not one main news service” had anything to say about his idiot spawn and their mutual corruption. Of course that was false, but the occurrences where he was wrong were earlier, not now and Biden only thinks of the daily news cycle, not what happened last week.

Heard where? Sasse is running for reelection. There is no way in hell that he’ll provide cover for anything. If impeachment comes to a vote he’ll vote no.

impeachment won’t happen but it could turn into a housecleaning, literally, of the House. People are more fed up with virtue-signaling liberal elitists than virtue-signaling liberal elitists realize.

No, if you are impeached and convicted, you can never hold federal office again. That is one of the reasons post-impeaching proceedings should be brought against any fed official who abuses his office. For example, Biden should be impeached and convicted for his Ukraine corruption, Hillary should be impeached and convicted for her mishandling of classified information, etc. After impeachment and conviction, these corrupt people should lose their pensions as well.

Pelosi is trying to keep the Democrat lemmings from running off a cliff.

Her “opening a formal impeachment inquiry” is a vague stunt to create time to see if she/the Dems want to form a committee to investigate whether to go forward with a real impeachment trial. Its all bullshit IMHO

Its like Dean Wormer in “Animal House” putting the Delta Tau Chi fraternity on double-secret probation.

No, wrong, if an individual is impeached and convicted, that person can never hold federal office again.

I can’t believe we have to explain this again...on FREE REPUBLIC.

1) The House can impeach.

2) However, the Senate has to vote 2/3 or 67 out of 100 to remove from office.

3) There are NOWHERE near enough votes in the Senate to remove Trump from office due to there being nothing impeachable and any Republican that voted to remove from office better resign and go into witness protection program.

4) Besides, if there were no grounds for impeachment (currently none), and they removed from office, with ONE TWEET he could call up the militia and get this cold war hot in a jiffy.

Impeachment is probably not going to happen, but it is irrelevant due to no way the Senate removes him anyway.

Actually I read that as the definitive result of conviction: removal from office and disqualification from any position of trust.

True. Democrats start overplaying their hand before all the cards are dealt...tomorrow should be interesting.
