Hadn’t heard a thing about it. I wonder if it’s some small independent film. If Clint Eastwood is director id go.

I think I should have been a bit clearer. I don't go to movie *theaters*. Sticky floors,$6 popcorn, poor sound systems is why.If a good film comes out on disk (particularly 4K,now that I have my new setup) I'll borrow it from my local, and excellent, library and if I like it I'll but it on ebay.

I have a very large collection of DVDs,blurays and 4Ks starting with films from the 40s,TV shows from the 50s and such classics as Upstairs/Downstairs and Downton Abbey.

Yeah, the battle scene was pretty well done. The love triangle story was horrible.

"The commitment to getting it right matriculated to the actors honored to represent American heroes.”

That reminds me of the manner in which the movie company collaborated with "re-enactors" during the filming of "Gettysburg." It was said at the time that the "re-enactors" often loaned actors some of their precious relics so as to boost authenticity and to make sure they "...got it right."

That is my general assumption. That there would be no 'superhero non-realist' action. However, I have noticed in some movies of 'regular humans' used CGI having them jump impossible jumps, fight impossible fights, etc. I am just sounding off a pet peeve. Wishing movies would showing real human heroics, limitations, and how they deal with situations. Like I said, just sounding off. Between the PC propaganda and the impossible scenes makes me weary of new ones. Sort of makes me sound like a stick in the mud I guess. But I really do love movies of nearly all kinds. Big movie buff*. I am actually looking forward to going to see Midway. I saw it advertised on television the other day. And really caught my eye.

I agree with you as a matter of personal taste. On the other hand, having popular movies shown to mass audiences around the world with Americans as heroes doing physically impossible things is flattering to ourselves and our country and infuriating to our enemies.

Back in the Eighties, I recall reading about terrorists in Lebanon who would mouth anti-American lines for the news media -- but when the cameras were off, they would ask questions of the crews about American popular culture, tell of cousins and friends who had happily settled in the US, and ask how one got a visa and a green card. Since then, despite terrorism and military conflicts, I have heard and read enough similar accounts to be convinced that America and Americans are deeply admired and genuinely appealing throughout the world.

Moreover, as we enter a cold peace with China fraught with the potential for armed conflict it cannot but be helpful for the US that Midway will arrive showing the Americans clobbering the last aggressor with hegemonic plans in Asia. This will facilitate our emerging strategy against China to cultivate local allies and build up their military potential. Amazingly, the US is quite popular in Vietnam, which is now suffering from Chinese aggression in the South China Sea. I imagine that Midway will be popular with audiences in Vietnam, who are likely to cheer even physically implausible combat feats by Americans fighting the Japanese.

“The Pacific” is fairly good, but why do we need to see it first?

That series doesn’t even mention, IIRC, Midway. Or Leyte Gulf. Or Coral Sea. Or the Marianas Turkey Shoot.

It’s fine for representing ground combat.

But it provides zero info about the crucial naval battles.

The status of the 4 carriers, specifically Kaga, Soryu and Akagi, was detailed brilliantly in “Shattered Sword,” which debunked the lies Fuchida told that historians swallowed for decades.

Shattered Sword proved that it wasn’t just sheer luck that allowed the dive bombers to wreck the first 3 carriers.

The Japanese were nowhere close to launching a strike on the US carriers at the moment when the dive bombers zoomed down.

So props to the 2019 movie for showing the sacrifice of the torpedo planes.

Yes, Shattered Sword is mentioned in the video I linked. I think the movie is going to be interesting not only for itself but for the reactions of people who ‘know’ things we’ve found out in the last decade were wrong.
