Apple Releases tvOS 13.3

Chance Miller for 9to5Mac:

tvOS 13.3 adds a new setting to revert one of the more annoying changes made to the Apple TV with tvOS 13.

Apple redesigned the Apple TV home screen with tvOS 13 to allow for fullscreen panoramic previews in the Top Shelf area. At the same time, it also changed the content of the Top Shelf for the TV app. The area originally showed your personalized “Up Next” queue, but that was changed to a “What to Watch” selection of video trailers and previews this year. A new setting in tvOS 13.3, however, lets you bring back the “Up Next” queue to your Apple TV Home screen. To change the setting, update to tvOS 13.3 Then, go into the Settings app. Select Apps, then select the TV app.

The new setting is under the “Home Screen” section. You can switch between showing “What to Watch” or “Up Next” in the Top Shelf. Click the remote to switch between the options.

Interesting item about iPadOS 13...
“Resolves an issue where the Cellular Data setting may incorrectly show as off”

I have seen this a LOT!

. They are as irritating as hell. . . So you try adblockers, then the website complains bitterly about your use of adblockers.

Have you had a problem with open tabs in Safari (iPad Pro) disappearing? Very strange...

For a couple days until I realized I was dragging them and they were becoming separate windows of Safari. You can drag up from the bottom of the home screen and find several instances of Safari windows running. Those are your missing tabs. It’s about the new multi-tasking. You can arrange them to be opened side by side. Great for cutting and pasting between webpages. Takes some getting used to.

I’ve used the multiple windows, it does take some getting used to.

I’m experiencing something different, where a dozen open tabs will disappear. I’m suspecting that they get killed when you click a link in mail and it opens safari, but not every time. Then when you go back to safari they’re all gone. Weird.

I’ve seen that. . . clicking a link in Mail will often open a new untabbed Safari Window. Other times it adds the link to your currently open Safari window. It depends on the script being used. Your original fully tab populated Safari window is still present, it just doesn’t have current focus. It took me a while to catch on to what was going on. I’m not liking that new feature; it feels more like a ‘bug’ to me, but I understand why they chose to do it that way.

“Breaking” and “Developing” labels for Top Stories
If I were paying attention to “News” at all - I far prefer “conservative" commentary - “Breaking” and “Developing” labels would almost entirely disqualify an article in my eyes.

As Donald Rumsfeld put it, “First reports are always wrong.”

“Breaking” news is the “fog of war."

Heard from a friend that if you have an older iPhone, you have to trade up for the iPhone 11. Cannot download the OS or it will corrupt the older iPhones.

I need help. My preferred way to peruse FR is to - yes, of course - check for “my comments” and then to check for Latest Articles.

Problem is, somehow I have gotten my setup discombobulated such that when I go for “latest articles” what I now get is a listing of latest posts. This is far less satisfactory. Someone should be able to straighten that out very easily, presumably - but I guess I’m older than I like to think.

The other thing I dislike is that I long ago goofed and reduced the display of latest “articles” to headline only. And I don’t know how to reset it to show summary under the headline of each article.

It’s not a matter of corrupting older iPhones, your older iPhone will not download this version at all because it can’t use it. You don’t need to upgrade to an iPhone 11. This version iOS 13.X is compatible with the following iPhones, with varying abilities in the upgrades:

If I had any of the last five models, especially if I had not replaced the batteries in them, I would be seriously considering upgrading to a more modern iPhone. They would be abysmally slow in operation with the newer iOS and much of the upgrade would not work on them because they just don’t have the hardware in them to support it. It will load and give them some of the security advantages, but not much of the technical upgrades.

For iPads, the following list are compatible with iPadOS 13:

Again, if I were to have the loser models of the iPad, they still work fine with the current iOS or iPadOS, but if I were to upgrade, I would also upgrade the device, especially if I had not upgraded the battery in the device.

That I can help with. . .

I think you’ll be back to normal FR surfing after doing those two things.
