A 78-year-old Perth man has died from the coronavirus, becoming the first person in Australia to die from the disease.
A Perth man has become the first person in Australia to die from the coronavirus.
Western Australia’s Chief Health Officer Dr Andrew Robertson on Sunday confirmed the 78-year-old man, who has not been named, died at Perth’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in the early hours of the morning.
The man and his wife contracted COVID-19 onboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship. His wife is stable and remains in hospital.

Just read an article saying that the elderly are the hardest hit, with this. Also, immune compromised.
The elderly population on cruise ships are sitting ducks for any contagion going around, whether it’s the flu, norovirus or this.
I’ve had pneumona twice.
I was SURE I would never be strong again while I had it.
Being older sure doesn’t help.
The virus is being taken very seriously (i’ve NEVER seen so many NYC companies cancel ALL travel) early on.

Yep.....pneumonia is VERY scary...at any age.
It scars the lungs. Many are then more susceptible to future cases of lung/resperatoriy illnesses.
It is stunning to see the measures being taken, for the COVID-19...by government, private companies, as compared to regular flu precautions.

Assuming ( and that’s a HUGE ASSUMPTION ), we accept your premise that the Chicoms developed this virus to target the Elderly, I would say it makes sense from a budgetary point of view... taking care of the older folks costs a lot of money and medical resources.

I never said that...but, it could simply be that the elderly are likely more susceptible, due to preexisting/underlying conditions. One being....old age.
If by design, then...very well could be seen that way.
There have been true “targeted” bioweapons out there in development for many years.
They are _far_ more precise than this virus.
While certain groups are more vulnerable than others, everyone is vulnerable.
Lots of middle age folks have died in China from this disease.
If this is a bioweapon, it is a really dumb one....
Your first comment about it affecting the elderly triggered the thought. It would make sense for them to engineer a virus to take out the elderly for exactly the reasons you said.

That’s a terrible shame. Here he went with his wife on a recreational cruise and paid for it with his life. Gotta love China. I certainly don’t.
