We had a LONG lead time/heads up, with China’s situation.
This is a total cluster fork ... on behalf of US, to NOT have enough test kits.
And, ‘anticipated demand’....what does THAT tell you??
Its shortages. Purell wouldn’t be going to the expense it is doing if it was just stocking issues.

For those that think hand sanitizer is just a stock issue because the store has it in some warehouse somewhere and hasnt delivered because the store didnt order enough...
Purell has experienced a “substantial increase” in demand for its line of sanitizing products, particularly for hand sanitizer and hand-sanitizing wipes and cleaning spray, said a spokeswoman for Purell parent company Gojo Industries Inc. Consumer demand online and at retailers has been especially pronounced, while businesses and health facilities have stepped up orders more incrementally.
She said the company has significantly increased production to meet expected demand, adding shifts and having employees work overtime. The latest rise in demand, she said, is “not unprecedented,” but is more pronounced than outbreaks such as severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, in 2002-03 and the H1N1 influenza virus in 2009.

The grocery store this morning had no hand sanitizer and not much hand soap. Guess people don’t understand the difference. Last week they had the frozen foods aisle and bacon, cheese and condiment aisle closed. Today the bacon, cheese and condiment aisle closed. I stretched in and grabbed a Velveeta box just because. Limited purchase signs on cleaning products and cream cheese and a few others. There was plenty of tp. Still no Lysol laundry. Only one can of spinach and no whipping cream. Lots of beer stacked in front of full beer shelves.
Didn’t notice anyone stocking up much. Thought one lady reading every flu medicine ingredients and another who had 4 small packages of tp but that was it.
The impulse will certainly be there!
Wells Fargo has suspended all employee travel, international and domestic.
I imagine it probably is a shock for those arriving in the US, not to be met with hazmat suits when that’s what they experienced overseas. But unlike earlier travelers who came in when no foreign blockades were in place, these travelers forget they’ve already run the gauntlet to get here. Is it really going to make anyone feel safer if a bunnysuit points a thermometer at them as they disembark?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the indignation shown towards possible infected on flights, or heaven forbid, a quarantine facility in their town, is nowhere to be found when it comes to completely unscreened illegals flooding sanctuary cities and surrounding areas for decades.
The Reality: Our three-point screening process:
1. All incoming are screened at the foreign point of departure for temp and signs of illness or travel through hotspots. This is the first cull and usually has several steps just to get to the gate.
2. Our second line of defense is the flightcrew themselves, who are highly trained in body language and security. Per FAA regulations, the stews report any person appearing sick inflight. Flights with a sick passenger will be met by the CDC and that person will be mandatory quarantined until test results come back. This is the second cull.
3. Our third line of defense is Customs. Also trained in body language, the screening could be a short or long conversation which is the agent’s way of determining whether you’re sick and if you’ve taken any meds and where you’ve been. Those flagged at customs are segregated for enhanced screening.
We might add a 2b step, and have the stews take everyone’s temp before they disembark, but that still won’t catch those who lie about self-medicating. And the stews are very good at spotting sick people anyway, especially on non-stop flights of some length.
Since we can’t swab test every passenger and have them sit around on a plane or in a lobby for 48 hours waiting for results, it’s up to the passenger to be truthful about their travels, what medications they’ve taken and who they’ve been in contact with. And to be smart enough to limit their contacts once back in the states (unless you’re on the CCP payroll that is).
The CDC has added a glossy postcard sized handout with directions on what symptoms to look for and what to do for those not smart enough to turn on the tv or do a search on the internet.

Because other viruses in recent years didn’t wipe us out, Americans have been conditioned to believe we have nothing to worry about.
But the numbers tell us we should be worrying/preparing.
The fact that the U.S. doesn’t have enough COVID-19 tests is alarming.
The college my kids attend is talking about shutting down, if necessary, and I’m heading out to stock up on more supplies myself.
Really hoping this virus follows the regular flu season and stops by the spring.
